In all reality, what has Petrino Done?

  • Seriously, the man hasn't done anything special. He won the Big East with Louisville at a time when the Big East was the worst BCS Conference in the country, he was an NFL Head Coach for half of a season before leaving in the middle of the night without even being man enough to personally tell the Falcons owner or even his own players, and he took a team that was in the SEC Championship game 2 years prior to his arrival and never got them to finish better than 2 games behind the winner of the West. Honestly, he's a great offensive coordinator, and he might even be a great PAC12 coach where you can win with just offense, but he is not a great SEC coach. Someone please tell me what he has done to deserve all the love many Auburn fans apparently have for him?

    No way this is serious:

He won a BCS bowl game and conference champiosnhip out of the Big East, when the Big East had competition: Rutgers/WVU/USF were all at their peaks.

He made Arkansas a year in and year out contender. Before then, Arkansas had good seasons when everyone else was down.

Don't go full stupid on us.

He was widely considered a top 5 HC in all of college football.

Depending on who you ask, he is correct. BP is widely considered as an amazing coach.

A top 5 HC in all of college football?, I've never heard that from anybody other than people on this board who are stretching things to fit their agenda

  • Just a few bits of History From other sites:

    1. In 1994 he moved to Nevada, serving as both offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach under Chris Ault. During his one season there, the Wolf Pack were second in the nation in both passing offense and total offense, and third in scoring offense.

    2. Louisville 1997-1998 - In his one season there, the Cardinals were top-ranked in Division I-A in scoring and total offense and posted the biggest positive turnaround among I-A football teams, winning six more games than in the 1997 season.

    3. In four years at Louisville, Petrino built the Cardinals into a national power. He led them to 11 wins in 2004 and 12 wins in 2006--only the second and third times that the Cardinals won as many as 11 games in a season.

    4. The Razorbacks under Bobby Petrino showed significant improvement in the 2009–10 season. The Razorbacks came close to upsetting the #1-ranked University of Florida Gators on October 19, 2009. That game culminated in a controversial 4th quarter personal foul call on an Arkansas lineman. The resulting 15-yard penalty allowed the Gators to continue what turned out to be their game-winning drive. The SEC ultimately issued an apology for the call and suspended the officiating crew.

The Razorbacks also enjoyed success under Petrino in the 2010 season finishing 10–2 and notching their first BCS bowl appearance against Ohio State. In the All State Sugar Bowl, Ohio State built an early lead behind the play of Terrell Pryor and Boom Herron, but Arkansas came back in the second half. As the Razorbacks were driving for a go-ahead score in the final minutes, Ryan Mallett threw an interception near the Ohio State 20 yard line, and Ohio State ran out the clock.

The Razorbacks won the 2012 Cotton Bowl Classic in Dallas, defeating the Kansas State Wildcats by a score of 29-16. They concluded the season with an 11-2 record, with losses to Alabama and LSU. It was only the third 11-win season in Arkansas' 119-year football history.

I'm just going by what Ron Sanders has said about people in the profession telling him that Bobby Petrino is one of the best there is. Sorry, but I'll take Ron's word, insight, and opinions over yours and trust him to be correct.

    Good Post, rkspeck.

Just hate when people act like the above OP. Its one thing to not like him because of morale, integrity, personal choices. Its another to call out his coaching credentials which on paper look really really good. Most of us have seen his Offensive product on the field as well. Every where he has been he has made their offense better. Its that simple. The above post proves that.

Defense is another story, but we all agree hiring a good DC is key or keeping BVG.

Yup, and he owned Auburn so dunno how people can question his coaching when they have seen it first hand dominate ours.
