Im off the cliff ... here is why

  • After an hour long melt down I started to think big picture. Ok, so I have been in the Petrino corner all along but maybe I am wrong and people who know more than me might be on to something. Hear me out and I will try not to get too wordy.

    Three years ago who was the hot coach? Texas coach in waiting Will Muschamp. When Florida got him it was consider a home run.

    Who was the Coach in waiting at Florida State? Jimbo Fisher and they were so afraid he would leave before Bowden stepped down.

    Ok - Alabama doesn't have an official coach in waiting but the obvious choice is Kirby Smart. And Alabama is light years ahead of where Texas and Florida State are. Maybe he is the next big thing and I cannot see it because of my despise all things Bammer.

    Think about this - Pat Dye wanted Petrino in 2003 (Jet gate). Pat Dye wanted Muschamp in 2008 and now he wants (rumors speculate) Kirby Smart. Seems to me he can still judge coaching talent.

    I have shuddered at the thought of Smart until I really thought this through. If not Petrino then Smart. If not Smart then Malzhan. But I am starting to give Smart a lot more consideration. Maybe its my inner psyche trying to protect me or maybe he is just a really good coach and I need to recognize it.

    Sounds like a lot of us are beginning to think that way - is it possible that we may actually come to a consensus about this? Heck the guy hasn't even been offered or accepted and he's already begun to unite some of the fan base.

  • There is just no way to know if Smart will be a good hire unless we just hire him and hope he works out. My first choice is Petrino, but i think Smart is definitely a good choice, more so than Malzahn.

  • I think he's an ok hire, but I really want an offensive minded coach. I am tired of the Auburn offense struggling. Give me BP or Malzahn.

    He is certainly not the best coach available but it is possible he is the best coach available for Auburn right now. And I am a Petrino guy but for all we know Smart might be the next Saban wherever he goes.

    I like where your heads at! I was all CBP, but I think I can get behind this. Not sold until I can see his staff tho.
