I'm new and have an opinion that's not been discussed . . .

  • . . . at least from what I have been able to see from outside the membership of the Bodda Getta.

I love Auburn football, and I care about it deeply. I remember when my dad would take me to see my first college games - Sullivan to Beasley.

Now that I'm older, I still love and attend Auburn football games, but something is different. I'm grown up and more mature. I am a very successful businessman, and I look at things differently now because of that. I tend to look at how to protect my assets. After all, it has taken my adult lifetime to accrue them.

Just like Auburn football. It has taken generations to build our rich heritage.

And I am concerned that we might be putting ourselves in a position to lose all that we have built.

I'm talking about the possible hiring of former coach Robert Petrino. I have nothing personal against him. I don't even know him. But I have to look at him as a liability.

Here is what I'm talking about. Say we proceed in our search for the right coach for our great university and decide to hire him. Then, in a few weeks, months, or years, another faculty member is charged with the same type sexual misconduct that Coach Petrino was dismissed for at the University of Arkansas. What kind of liability have we brought upon ourselves?

I would love to be the lawyer that represented the offended party and forced Auburn University to settle out of court with me. (Actually I WOULDN'T love it, but there are thousands of attorneys that WOULD love to be in that position.)

Why? Because I could easily prove that Auburn University DID NOT CARE about providing a safe environment for my client. How could I do that? By referencing the fact that Auburn KNOWING and WILLFULLY hired a perpetrator of the same kind in the recent past. In fact, the coach that was hired was terminated from another university for doing the same thing, and what does Auburn do? They go ahead and hire him anyway. And not only that, they celebrated his hiring by having a press conference where everyone patted themselves on the back and smiled about how they had just secured the best football coach in the land.

Once again, it's not personal. It's business. That's just the way I think.

I love Auburn and I want to protect its assets.

I don't mean to be controversial. I don't mean to make anyone mad. I just wanted to state my opinion. WDE !!

I'm sure that BP wouldn't risk the possibility of losing another 18m buyout. The university would have immediate cause for termination, but If AU hires BP, obviously the university has the utmost confidence in petrino's intentions and abilities. I am in no way advocating for BP, but if the university has selected him to be the H.C. they also accept the consequences. Besides, I'm sure that the settlement (if this is even a plausible situation) would not be anywhere in the neighborhood of the 7.5 million dollar buyout that is currently allocated to Gene Chizik.
    - If the university selects BP the largest issue will be to find a solution to the rift in the fan base, not a potential law suit.

  • People...he didn't break any laws. He was caught in a consensual affair. While it might be immoral he didn't break any laws written by man. Quit worrying about lawsuits.

You don't have to break any laws for a lawsuit to be filled against you, but this is a trivial thread.

Unfortunately, many, many football coaches, including current ones and including ones who piously go to church every Sunday, are pillars of their community and say all the right things have had and are now having extramarital affairs. Bobby Petrino is no different.

Wow! I am honored that Phillip commented on my first ever post.
    Thanks and WDE!
