"If you can't put your faith in an Auburn man, who can you put your faith in?"
Folks, I don't know much about David Housel as an AD...I had moved away from Auburn during the years he was in that position, but I do know...
He is one of my father's best friends. Dad filled in as a team physician in the 70's and early 80's. Dad is retired now, but is still heavily involved in athletics as a donor and incredible supporter of both football and basketball scholarships. You would be hard pressed to find a truer Auburn fan than my father.
Dad was very recently in the hospital for a long period of time and David Housel was one of the friends who came to see him. His stay at EAMC was the period between the time Chizik was let go and Gus was hired. I sat with my dad in the hospital when David visited him, and remember kind of shrinking in the corner in awe while Dad and David talked...about good books, general history, and Auburn football. Not so much all about football, but about life in general. Two incredibly smart Auburn men (from decades past) who thought intently about what it meant to not only wear the navy blue jersey, but also what it meant to be an Auburn man in the world today.
"Jetgate" was definitely a low point for Mr. Housel, to which I think he concedes. I personally think it was a screw up that needs to be forgotten (and another good reason we didn't hire BP as our coach). And to the person that described Mr. Housel as "arrogant, cruel, and a bit of a jerk," maybe you have first-hand information that I don't have. I just have never seen that. Maybe he is, I don't know. I have known him since I was a little girl. Maybe it's because I never knew him as the AD, but only as a friend. As a friend, he is a class act.
Alabama delenda est.
