The decade of the eighties will never be forgotten by Auburn people. The reason is simple: It was the greatest decade in Auburn Football history. It began with a new head coach and a new attitude and philosophy at Auburn. By the end of the decade, the Tigers were playing in an expanded 85,000vseat stadium, had won four SEC championships, recorded six victories over Alabama, and appeared in eight consecutive bowl appearances. Plus, a Heisman Trophy, and Outland Trophy, and a Lombardi Award had all been brought home to Auburn.
In 1990, the Auburn Network released an hour-long video entitled Auburn: The Decade of the Eighties, featuring the announcement of Pat Dye as head coach in 1981, the Tigers' 30-20 victory over Alabama in the first-ever meeting between the two schools at Jordan-Hare Stadium, and interviews with the people who made it all happen. It was an immediate hit and remains one of the best-selling Auburn videos ever.
In this two-DVD set, the Auburn Network resents the original Decade of the Eighties video in high-quality digital format as well as a brand new retrospective interview with Coach Pat Dye. The conversation with Dye, led by longtime Auburn Football Review television show host Phil Snow, provides the viewer with a behind-the-scenes retrospective by the architect of the Tigers' phenomenal decade of the eighties.
"Those blue jerseys put the fear of God in people" -Pat Dye
