  • Let me know if I need to just take a chill pill or is this getting ridiculous......I know BPSN is a Thayer and Evans type of show right now in regards to Auburn...but did I read to much into this article/commentary? Because I am pissed right now about this....when will the madness stop....

If you are looking for a change of heart and direction from these guys, you are in for disappointment. They are not going to drop it because they have made themselves part of the narrative and like a bammer saying stupid things like: " we won the first half against aubarn" they will never admit to failure. They are so angry that we won, that they were wrong, and the fact they can't prove anything they reported and it is embarrassing to them. I choose not to read their junk just like I choose not to watch MSNBC or listen to what Bill Mahr says.

    Try SI.com or CBS instead.

  • I'd just relax. The premise of his article is that we shouldn't assume God is for or against us in a sporting event. And that if you really want to call on God, then you suddenly have to give up an financial ambitions.

This is a typical argument by a "Christian" in name only. You know, the ones who go to church twice a year, never say Grace, never give to charity, never serve their community in any capacity...

He doesn't like Chizik and the team being so outspoken about God because it makes him uncomfortable about his own relationship with God.

I'd bet this cat was not a big fan of Tim Tebow either.

  • My thoughts when I read it was, a lot of athletes and coaches reference God in their accomplishments. Pro, college, does not matter...I have heard and seen too many references in regards to these people giving thanks to God. Yet this is first article/commentary I have seen like this and it just happens to be CGC and Auburn being called out.....that is the part that pissed me off.....I am calmer now...and have said a prayer that writer. War Eagle!!!!

  • Didn't read the article, but my brother and I were talking here in the dessert, before the game, about how this game seemed like God vs devil! You have conservative, bible belt Auburn vs extremely liberal, Oregon! You have one coaching staff, Admin, players, thanking God, Jesus, at every turn, one staff, haven't seen anything on that at all this whole week out of anyone from Oregon! Not saying some, all, most, aren't Christians! Just alot of things point in the direction I'm talking! Glad I am on the TRUE Winning side, and I am not talking football!

  • Well as my late uncle said years ago, being an Auburn man is a lot like being a Christian
it is not always easy but in the end it is well worth it.

    AUhomer

  • The piece was done mostly in jest. You can tell by the light, non-serious tone, especially towards the end.

I believe his point was to say:

We shouldn't attribute winning a game to His predestination. Rather, we should give thanks to Him for blessing us in spirit, strength of character, and strength in ability. These things help us win.

To say God was for us and not the ducks is a fallacy and goes against His nature.

  • Nearly half of the state of Oregon is extremely conservative. Judging a fan-base on your pre-conceived notions or whether they praise Him at the game or in public is wrong.

Also, I would like to dispel this notion that being liberal equates to being a godless heathen. I was raised that being Christian means you dedicate your life to His wonder and you try to live a Christ life. I never once saw "Commandment 11: Thou shalt not be a Democrat."

  • In my post I said they all could be Christians, didn't judge a soul! Won't get into the liberal talk, don't care!

    aufan89

  • How about this excerpt from Pat Forde's column. How petty can he be?

"I don't want nobody to feel sorry for me, because throughout this year didn't nobody feel sorry for Auburn," Newton said, setting a BCS record for double negatives in a single sentence. "We got the last laugh."

    Tigerdot

  • I am sorry. Comments like, "seemed like God vs. devil!", and "You have conservative, bible belt Auburn vs extremely liberal, Oregon!" shows you have already cast your judgement.

"Not saying some, all, most, aren't Christians!" just says to me that you felt the way you did despite knowing anything about them. You passed judgement without taking the time to know them.

  • I don't think CGC was saying that we won because God wanted us to. He basically said God is with us, and that's the truth. I don't really know if God cares who wins a ball game or not, I do know that God works in strange ways. I certainly think there are Christians on Oregon's team.

  • I picked up a USA Today this morning, glanced at the sub headlines, and just put it back w/o buying it. Too much anti-Cam, anti-Auburn stuff.

We used to only see this garbage in the Inquirer; now it is everywhere--all over the internet, cable TV, you name it.

The funny thing is, if you just use common logic, you would not be saying this stuff about AU going on probation and giving back the trophy. Auburn did not even want Cam!!!!!!!!! They kind of picked up by accident. Even Cam acknowledged that on Leno last night.

Seems like if we were going to commit all of these horrible crimes, we would've least had a high motivation to do so?

The Auburn and Cam story of 2010 is one of the greatest stories ever in college football. Too bad only Auburn fans are the ones to enjoy it, but, hey, Rhett said, Frankly, I just don't give a #$@ anymore!

  • The only effective thing we can do is NOT read these articles. These morons get paid and rated by "clicks" on what they write. The huge reaction they get from us only incourages them to do it again and again. Hard to do, I know, but we just simply have to walk away. We know Auburn and love it.

  • While I do think the writer's opinion of what Coach Chizik meant while giving glory to God, I did LOVE his take on the Oregon uniforms and on their having an booster who contributes millions to promote his company while giving them a recruiting advantage.
After all, those "cool" uniforms seem to be loved by many recruits. I read where they are the "cool" school to be have recruiting you.
