  • anyone played Huntsville CC lately? i know its usually in great shape, just wondering if there are any members on here. i am playing in a league on Thursdays coming up in the spring, and was wondering if it was still nice. I know they are hosting the State Mid-Amateur tourney there this fall.

I was a member there for the past 5 years and dropped in October. They assessed every member around $1000 and like another poster said, opened it to public 3 days a week. Which I can't say I blame them for doing any of those things because of the financial situation there. They lost a lot of the junior members at that time and about 15 or 20 of my group from there have all dropped as well.

As far as the course itself goes, it's always in fabulous shape. In my mind, they have the best greens in the area. Mike keeps it in tip top shape year round.

Yeah. We got assessed every year we were members. Usually it was around $300-500. But I wasn't going to drop $1000 to stay a member at a place that I'm not sure is going to make it to the end of the year financially.

  • My brother is one of the new owners of the course on memorial parkway. He is planning to do a lot of upgrades to the course and pro shop. It's also a much better price. I don't know what all is coming but I know they are getting new carts and the iPhone GPS system. Just thought I would throw that out there and try to help him out.

The only course I'm aware of on the Pkwy is Muni, and I'm pretty sure the city still owns that one. What course do you speak of?

no, he is talking about the muni...they bought it from the city...supposed to be putting in new greens over the course of this year...renovating the entire course.

interesting... It's a good location except for being next to the landfill and #15, #16, and #17 smelling like, well, a landfill. I do like the layout though and it has potential with a good renovation. We are really lacking quality public golf options in Huntsville.

yeah, you're telling me...and the private courses are relying on retired gov't. workers to keep up their memberships, which apparently isn't going so well...i would play at RTJ Hampton Cove if it wasn't so damn far from my house. The closet public courses to me are Sunset Landing and Southern Gayles, and they aren't exactly in good shape.

I hate Hampton Cove, too. It has some goofy designs and you can count on a 6 hour round out there. Once you're a member at a private club for a while, you become a little spoiled from being able to just go out to the course and play whenever you want to and at a pace of play of 3.5 to 4 hours max. Heck, I used to be able to go out to HCC during the week and walk it by myself in 2.5 hours.

  • It is the municipal course. The city still owns the land but they own the business. They signed a contract to have rights to the property for like 20 years and then the contract can be renegotiated. They are gonna make a lot of changes for the better. It just may take a little time.

  • What all state tourneys you play AUmike? I used to play 2-3 of them every year.
