How do the Holier than thou crowd feel about ...

Petrino was NOT fired because he cheated on his wife.

One more time....he was NOT fired for adultery.

Good grief, could pro-Petrino people be misrepresenting that any worse?

People just don't get that it's not just black and white. +1.

Statboy, I did not say in my post anything about why he was fired , simply comparing situations .

    "Statboy"?

Really, your gonna start with the name calling?

There really are other sites for that kind of crap!

The only comparison between the two situations is that they both cheated on their wives.

If that's all there was to the Petrino story, a man cheating on his wife...

    A. he'd still be Arkansas' coach, and B. He'd be the clear, leading candidate for the Auburn job.

His challenge in getting a job has nothing to do with cheating on his wife. So if the cheating is not what you're getting at, I'm not sure of the point of your post.

*all stats excluded from this post so as not to cause confusion.

You have made your points against CBP enough already JD. Why don't you give it a rest already? I as many others don't care for the reasons not to hire the man. I care as many others do to hire the man for two reasons. He is a damn good coach and he has always wanted to coach at Auburn. I can't say that about ANY candidate ever considered by Auburn. The last four HCs - CGC, CTT, CTB, and yes CPD were fortunate that Auburn hired them and not the other way around. CPD was the only coach of the four who contributed something of value to Auburn.

So moan and groan and squeal the same old lines over and over again about CBP. If he is hired everyone will need to get behind him. Like it or not he'll be an Auburn man then.
But first things first our clueless HC CGC needs to be shown the door.

  • Petrino supporters are like "athletic supporters," they do their job without regard to the real quality of what they support.

Lets keep politics and religion out of the Bodda Ghetta.

Also, Petrino wasn't fired for moral failings. He was fired for cause relating to human resource issues that violated university policy and likely state law. Completely different reasons. Once you get past the risk involved in bringing that kind of recklessness into your athletic department, then you can work on the next issue-i.e. the odious moral failings of the guy many think has completely reformed since April.

Thank you, and I agree..."moral" failings = non-issue in Petrino's firing. So, everyone should get off their high horse about that and a potential hire at AU. Nobody (well, at least a lot of folks) gives a damn if he cheated on his wife. Although U of A's policy is a little vague on what constitutes an improper relationship between superiors and their employees, I think that may be what did it for BP (that and reports that he had a hand in hiring his mistress for a job for which she was not qualified). And is what, I think, might potentially make it difficult for another school to hire him, despite what a great coach he is. Dr. Gogue seems like a pretty "by the book" kind of guy (i.e. waiting until the season is over to "evaluate" and then hopefully fire Chizik) and I suspect he views Petrino as a potential liability. A sexual relationship with someone in a lesser position would possibly be grounds for reprimand in even a tenured faculty member, and since Dr. Gogue seems to be heavily steeped in academic traditions, I wouldn't be surprised if he considered BP's past as a major factor in his decision to whether or not to hire him. Would you hire someone who knowingly violated policy, very publicly, at his last position? I suspect this bears heavily on Dr. Gogue's mind as (and if) he considers BP as a potential hire for HC.

Disclosure...I do work for the state of Arkansas at another public higher education institution. Our policies on sexual relationships between superiors and employees are pretty clear and taken very seriously...and perhaps they are as well at AU. I don't know. I do believe that most university leaders would have take a great pause before hiring someone with BP's past. Not because he wouldn't be a good football coach, but because of the liability he could be with the media, fans, students, alumni, families, and donors if he f#$&'s up again. Believe me, maybe some folks were upset when Petrino was fired from U of A, but almost all my Razorback friends pretty much hate his guts and are glad he is gone.

That's pretty funny and dang ironic that you would post that someone who is not for hiring Petrino should "give it a rest" in a thread where the OP specifically asked a question related to Petrino's history of poor decision making.
