Hiring Petrino would be an unmitigated disaster

This thread is a disaster, heck hiring and keeping GENE CHIZIK on is a mitigated disaster.

Public perception is a factor in any decision like this and should be. Not the ultimate one but a consideration especially when there are other good options available.

Petrino walked into a Louisville program that was 27-10 the 3 years before he got there. the cupboard was well-stocked for him. Miami and VaTech left the Big East a year after he got to Louisville, making his task much easier. At Arkansas, Mallet fell into his lap and Nutt had recruited fairly well, leaving BP some pretty good talent. Petrino has had mediocre recruiting classes and it would have shown very soon. Look, you're welcome to your opinion and I know I'm not going to change your mind. But the idea that hiring Petrino is the solution to our problems is without basis and there are a LOT of AU people that don't want him. The AU websites cannot be considered a representative sampling of AU opinion.

BP has the highest winning % of any coach in the SEC.....

Again, its not, just like others have stated 1 years recruiting class shouldn't be. You make hire who is going to build AU back. If you think BP is that guy, great. If you think he is not, great. Comparing his personal choices and life to his coaching abilities is stupid.

We are already in an unmitigated disaster. The national media hates Auburn anyway. Hire the best proven HC coach with competence on offense available. Petrino is that. That man has been humbled and has a great deal to prove, particularly from a character standpoint. The good Lord forgives and gave me a second chance. Why not him?

When a person is very much going to be the public face of a university, not just the football program, his judgement is part of the equation. If he continually makes questionable personal choices, that has to enter into your decision on hiring. To ignore that you're saying this 1) winning and winning now is my only consideration 2) when this blows up in my face, and it will, I don't care.
it's amazing the amount of unbridled lack of critical thinking on this issue. I hope the people actually making this decision don't decide on important things like most on here seem to, like a horny 16 yr old.
