Then why did he not hire his D coordinator from ASU? He already said coordinators will select their own staff. Therefore, Ellis Johnson will be identifying who he wants. That leaves the potential for any of the names mentioned in this thread.

Am I the only one who has a problem with a head coach not selecting his staff? Or the only one who has a problem with a guy that was a GA 2 years ago trying to hire coaches? Who can he know? What does he possibly know about hiring coaches?

First of all no matter who he hires it will be one of his people because he hired them.

Second, what is the definition of his own people? Is Ellis Johnson a guy he has never worked with one of his people?

The guy has made 2 on the field hires, one of which is very highly regarded. The other guy is a guy that has worked with Gus pretty much his entire career. I for one fully expected Rhett to be the OC as soon as Gus was hired. Based on the 2 hires he has made I'm not sure how you can predict that he will fail in 3 years.

The head coach should do the hiring of them all, not the Oc and the DC. look at BVG, he brought in that loser Martinez with him and boy was that a good choice. You people holding this premature pep rally had better slow down. I hope Malzahn does a great job here. All I'm saying is that there is zero evidence that he knows how to build a D-1 program. I notice that a lot of you are new to this board. Two weeks ago, just about everyone here wanted new blood at Auburn and we ended up recycling an ex-coordinator just like Chizik was. if any of you think this hire just happened last Tuesday you're just fooling yourself. PM even made the statement about 10 days ago that people did not want to hear about a job interview 'blowing them away.' And that's the first thing we heard.....that and the word unanimous over and over. I said it before the search and I'll still say it....."I am against any hire in FB that JJ makes."
