Here is the release...
Auburn gymnastics head coach Jeff Graba announced the signing of Mary Jane Rott and Kullen Hlawek for the 2014 season on Wednesday.
“The 2013 class is one of the most powerful and dynamic classes we have signed here at Auburn,” Graba said. “Both Mary Jane Rott and Kullen Hlawek come from tremendously successful club programs and are very accomplished on the national stage. We expect both of them to contribute to our team immediately next season and we believe both of them will be immediate crowd favorites for the Auburn Family.”
Rott comes to Auburn from Rising Stars Gymnastics Academy in Oakdale, Minnesota. She is a three-time JO National Championships Qualifier. Rott has won seven all-around titles in the last two years, including winning the Region IV All-Around Championships in both 2011 and 2012.
She finished 12th at the JO National Championships in 2011 and 2012. Her career-high score of 38.55 in the all-around was set in 2011.
“Mary Jane is a tremendous all-around gymnast, but I think her power and her fun-loving personality shows through in her floor routine,” Graba said. “Her flair on the floor really gives you a glimpse inside this dynamo of a gymnast.”
A native of Fulshear, Texas, Hlawek competes for Champion Gymnastics Academy in Katy, Texas. She is a two-time JO National qualifier. She has scored 38 or higher in the all-around five times in the last two years.
Hlawek is the 2012 Texas State vault and floor exercise champion and the 2011 Region III vault champion. She set a career high all-around score of 38.275 on two occasions and scored a perfect 10.0 in the floor exercise at the 2011 Alamo Classic.
“In addition to being extremely successful nationally and a true all-around gymnast, Kullen Hlawek has some of the most unique gymnastics in the country,” Graba said. “Kullen throws a move on the vault that is extremely difficult and so rare that only a handful of gymnasts compete it.”
The 2013 edition of the Auburn gymnastics team will be on display for the first time on November 27 at 6 p.m. in Auburn Arena in a preview meet. Admission is free. Gymnastics opens the 2013 season on January 6 in Berkeley, Calif. against Cal and Arizona.
