Just came across Chris Low's game wrap-up on the ESPN.com SEC blog. (Won't give them the traffic from a link here. You've got to decide to give Bristol a hit on your own.) Anyway, he said, with no context, that "Gogue did not attend" the game in Tuscaloosa.
PM, Ron, anyone -- Is this true? What's the story?
That's really not acceptable in my book. And I'm anything but an athletics-first/the-president-is-a-pointy-headed-D-bag kind of alumnus. I argue vehemently whenever I can that an Auburn president should demand that EVERY enterprise operating in the university's name should strive to meet and then set the national standard. From a undergraduate research assistant, to the engineering dean, to the Honors College director, to the women's soccer coach, to the research grant writer. Everyone.
Part of that approach for any president should be visible presence at the university's most high-profile events. Whatever one thinks about football, the Alabama game absolutely fits in that category.
Again, maybe he had a personal situation come up. But otherwise ...
Don't know if it's true or not but I have read recently in multiple places that Gogue is not a real big football fan in general and does not have much knowledge about the sport in general. That is worrisome on so many levels right now.
If he watched on tv and turned the game off at half, he probably saw all he needed to see...
