I argue vehemently whenever I can that an Auburn president should demand that EVERY enterprise operating in the university's name should strive to meet and then set the national standard. From a undergraduate research assistant, to the engineering dean, to the Honors College director, to the women's soccer coach, to the research grant writer. Everyone.

Part of that approach for any president should be visible presence at the university's most high-profile events. Whatever one thinks about football, the Alabama game absolutely fits in that category.

Again, maybe he had a personal situation come up. But otherwise ...
