Give me reason for Optimism

  • Ten days away from the first game, no QB has excelled to the point Chizik has named a starter.
    Going into the first game, likely starters on offensive line are two freshmen, two sophomores and a senior
    They will be breaking in new coordinators on both sides of the ball.
    The top running back prospect with the most upside will not see the field this year, if ever.
    The secondary has potential to be better , but they are unproven also.

    I hate to be a non optimist but I just can't see this team being that much better than last year, at least in the first half of the season. Our front seven on defense, our kicking game and experience at tailback are some of the positives but I don't know if that is enough.

    It's going to be ok. We MIGHT lose 2 of the first 3 games, but I can't see having a worse record than last year. The upside is, I also don't see any blowout losses.

    Frankly, I would be satisfied with that THIS year, but after that, "I ain't taking nuthin but a win"

  • I have been following AU football for over 40 years and one thing I have learned is to take everything said about the team in spring and pre-season with a grain... make that a pound of salt. Countless times we hear that so-and-so defensive end is GREAT... no one can block him only to find out during the year that other teams can block him, just we didn't have anyone who could block anybody. Two years ago, CGM confessed that in the preseason he was worried about the offensive line because they couldn't seem to consistently block Nick Fairley and company. We all know how 2010 turned out.

    We are headed in the right direction. This year may be a stepping stone or another year like 2010. Who knows... Just relax, sit back and enjoy the ride. cool

  • I am an Auburn man. I read this site to keep informed, not to be reassured. The fact that I love Auburn and believe in it does that for me. This season will roll out as it will and worrying about it will not change what happens. If you need some reassurance on where our program is headed you might read Chizik's book "All In".

    Well,

    QB play can't be any worse (and most likely the starter will be way more athletic than last year).

    O-Mac now has a fullback to open inside holes, and the other 3 RBs were all 4-stars and have decent size (all comparable in size to Dyer) to run between the tackles.

    The guys entering the rotation on offensive line actually had to compete for the position and weren't just plugged in because of seniority after losing a top OL.

    Van Gorder > Roof. Way better.

    We went 8-5 with essential no QB and an inexperienced defense. We now have an experienced D and a better defensive game plan.

  • History says we do better when little is expected of us. Also, just because a player is new or young, doesn't mean he can't play. Third, I for one, don't think we'll be missing Dyer too much. Finally, we get three of the four big dogs that we need to beat now in JH.
