It is hard to argue that the fan base does not shift quickly from one extreme to another, and like so many I didn't do much to improve the situation. It's also hard to argue that the defense in 2009 and --10 was so sick. A national champ has got a defense or it would not be a national champ. My guess is that a defense that should have been a lot better in --12 was handicapped by a scheme that was totally new being implemented by a coordinator that couldn't hire his own position coaches and frequently had to coach position coaches before they could really instruct the players to implement what the coordinator wanted.
