For the workout gurus.....

  • How can all of bama be so much bigger than everyone else at almost every position? What are they doing to the players. I would think most S&C coaches would be doing the same stuff.

This has been going around for a couple of years about the uat players being given a questionable supplement for strength and weignt gain. You know Lil Nicky...if it's on the edge of being illegal...he'll try it until someone calls him on it.

Well first of all they recruit big at the power positions. They recruit players with big frames and build them from there. I know Courtney Upshaw somewhat and he said they are constantly in the weight room and feed them like horses. Regardless of what everyone thinks about everyone at Bama being evil, Courtney is an outstanding person and I doubt highly he would ever do something like PEDs. He's always just been a big kid from what I understand.

  • meh, they claimed the same thing about us for years..... kids get big when they eat and work out all the time. The specific way that they work out could be geared for adding bulk while ours is to add leaner muscle? no telling..... then again, they could be shooting each other up with horse juice!

They’ve been recruiting young men that are already big or have a big frame for the past few years.. It’s a difference in philosophy then Tubberville. Tubbs would recruit a 195 lbs LB because he was fast, Saban and his staff find a kid that is already 220 lbs and fast right out of high school. The Great Mustache running our D now has the same philosophy as Saban. Just because a kid is fast does not mean he can play LB in the SEC. I think over the next few years we’ll start to see bigger and strong LB’s playing for AU. And as much as we hate to admit it, Saban does a great job in recruiting the best D players in the country (cheating pun intended!)

To add to that^^^^^ The 3-4 requires a bigger linebacker that may be a step or two slower than the 4-3.

They need size to be successful
we need speed to be successful

  • I know the 3-4 requires much bigger linebackers, but I have always wondered why their corners look almost 15 lbs bigger than ours. I could never figure out how. I think it comes down to a few things though. First is philosophical. Saban likes very physical corners so he recruits very strong guys. Second is opportunity. When a guy has a chance to redshirt and be in the system for some time before he is expected to start he can really build muscle even during the season. Playing as a true freshman, even just being in the rotation, really sets some of our guys back in the strength department. That might be why we haven't seen some of our DB's that we have rely on early in their careers add as much weight as others.

  • Bwahahahaha, Courtney is an outstanding person? You have got to be joking. The guys is a pure thug who hits women, but whatever you say.

  • we will be as impressive, physically, as anyone in the nation going into the 2013 fall. bamas weight program is no more affective than anyone else's but they have signed 225-235 lb LBs and 250-280 lb DEs coming out of high school and we are trying to get ours to that size by their jr year of college. The size of the gentlemen that step on the field starts with recruiting. We are nearly there.

Do you know him? Ok then, don't talk crap. That was shotty reporting. I've heard from him personally and he and his gf got in a yelling match and someone called the cops. No one was hit and she even said later she hadn't been touched. So get some real information before you talk jackass. I hate Bama as much as anyone, but I know Courtney and he is a great person with a big heart. His life story is basically match for match with "The Blind Side". You don't know anything about the guy, you are just speaking off of what you heard. You are no better than everyone calling Cam a thug two years ago based soley off of shotty reporting.

  • Flat. Out. Bs. I know two of the cops who were on the scene and trust me, it wasn't a shotty report.

  • As far as knowing his character... Doubt anybody on this board knows me unless they are from tos, but trust me, I know more about him than you think. That wasn't his only troublesome episode while in Tuscaloosa, it just got the most attention because he was arrested.

    Mikecb22

  • Concerning upshaw....it probably just depends on your standard for "outstanding". I do not know him but I have a hunch he doesn't meet my standard, but that's my opinion. It shouldn't bother anyone on here because I know it doesn't bother him.
As for the BIG players, I always felt like trent was the poster boy for HGH.
Also, the players have no way of knowing what is in their food...."win at all cost".

  • This discussion is all over the place. First, most people of good character never have troublesome episodes that involve law inforcement. Second, Alabama recruits the very best athletes in the country. Those guys are born big and fast. As for coaching, it all starts with quality athletes. We don't like to admit it, but when Alabama has a good season, and that is most every season, it is because each of their players beat the guy across from him. If Coach Chizik had Alabama's players and Saban had Auburn's this past season, the score would have been reversed.

And Auburn would be under an NCAA investigation.

  • I just want to know if anyone hear who is talking bad about him have actually met and talked with the guy about something other than football? He is actually a quiet spoken guy and I have a lot of respect for him considering where he came from. My fraternity brother's family took him in at a young age because his parents were absent. He knew I was an Auburn fan (I even poked at him a little bit about it) and he still treated me with decency and respect and he is a very nice guy. I dunno what you call it, but to me, when someone treats me with decency and respect and has all respect for others then they get my respect. He is a yes sir, no sir, yes mam, no mam type of guy and I find that to admirable in today's society when I see people like Geno Smith's (insert whatever expletive you choose here) tweet stuff like I saw on the thread about tweets.

In any case, I digress. Apologies to the OP for getting off subject.
