Florence/ Killen area

  • Please forgive me for posting on a sports site about a dog, but I am desperate to find our dog that ran from fireworks on July 3rd from Wilson lake in Killen. I am doing everything i can think of to do. She is a yorkie, tan and silver. She weighs about 10 pounds. Please keep your eyes and ears open for me if you live in the area. War Eagle!

Just a suggestion, but check with local vets and animal hospitals. I've had a 4th of July runaway, myself, and the couple that found her before I did took her to their vet.

Thanks. We have and I just called them again after your post. We are putting signs everywhere and just trying to get the word out. She is a sweet girl. An Auburn resident, but was on vacation at the lake when she ran. We are hoping and praying. Thanks again for your suggestion and everyone's patience with my misuse of the site.

  • I've got quite a few friends on FB in that part of the state and re-posted your message minus sports related info with me as a contact. I don't know if it will help but really hope you find the pup.

I knew I could count on the AU family! Thanks so much!

  • Glad you posted. Dogs are important. Let us know when you find her, Ok?

But by the way, consider getting a micro chip. it's painless and your dog will always be found no matter where they are.

  • I will let you know! Thanks! We have absolutely changed our thoughts on microchips the last few days. She's a sweet, well trained, adult. If she can scare and run any could. We were not expecting the fireworks and just opened the door to "go outside" before bedtime. So sad!

  • This same thing happened to our Golden when she was about a year old. Memorial Day fireworks spooked her and she ran off. She was missing for about three days. A guy found her about three miles down the road and called her tag number. She was fine. Keep you hopes up.

  • Sadly, the 4th of July season is one of the worst time of the year for dogs to go missing. Fireworks seem to panic them worse than just about anything and then they run an hide, often so far that they can't find their way back. My pups ignore thunder but when fireworks are going off over the lake (Martin) they both get in the chair with me.
Anyone considering using a microchip should be sure they understand the implications of non-standard chip frequencies and encoding that we suffer from in this country. A good read is found at

  • I've used Homeward Bound microchipping (and it's the one used by the Humane Society), and I've been very happy with the results.

  • I wish I had good news but no luck yet. Turtle Point is a great idea. We will talk to them tomorrow. My parents live in Killen and the house is on the river and the area secluded. She ran straight back away from the river to a 100 acre farm. Not many neighbors but they all know so we keep hoping. Thanks for all the tips and kind words.
