Feature Request Thread

  • Let's start a features you would like to see on the site. Don't make it a gripe fest, just ideas of things you would like to be included on the site. We all understand that features will be rolling out over time, but list stuff you would like to see and give feedback on other's ideas.

    I'll start with mine:

    1. Premium board (like you didn't know I was gonna say that)
    2. PMs
    3. Polls
    4. Thread subscription options (email notification fo new posts, etc)
    5. Smileys
    6. Allow us to use html code

That is all for now. Sure I will think of more.

  • Is it possilbe for the time being to quit having some posts marked as "For members Only" until the bug is fixed for some of us who are members but not recognized by the system yet?

  • The premium board would be first.

Second, the PM and smileys, I think, are not a small thing. I know it seems that way, but when you're dealing with a message board, just like an email or text, things can be read in a million different ways. People are often misunderstood without being able to give your words a "tone" and "attitude". That's done, primarily, with those little smileys.

I decided before the switch that I wasn't going to complain about things just because they were "different" or because I wasn't used to them yet. Change takes getting used to, I'm pretty easy when it comes to that.

However, I also didn't expect to be thrust into using a site that doesn't really seem ready to be "used". I mean, we're here, and we're using it, but it just seems odd, and in the middle of the football season, to have so many things missing.

It's like I order a new car at the dealer, 3 months later it comes in, so I go pick it up. I get there, the engine starts, the steering works, the brakes work, but there's no AC controls, no radio, the windows don't roll down, the trunk doesn't open, and the gas cap won't come off for refilling.

The dealer then tells me how all those things are on their way from Germany....and once they're installed....wow, I'm going to love my car. You won't believe what all the new radio will do once it gets here, etc.

Well damn, I would have just kept driving my old car that had a functional radio and windows until my new car was actually ready if I knew all the new car was going to do was get me from point A to point B.

I highly doubt they'll allow html code, since that would open a huge can of worms for folks to exploit. You're probably thinking about bbcode.

Thread subscription is already in, sort of. You can follow a thread, and replies to it will show up in your feed (once the feed goes live).

The others are good and I agree.

    yes, i meant bbcode.

And I would like subscriptions in the sense that I get an email when a post to a thread I have posted to is made, etc.

You are on a roll with the metaphors this morning. I too agree that the new site doesn't seem anywhere close to being ready because it lacks so many basic features of a message board. The decision to move over was probably primarily based on money, which I understand, but I wish that it was a few steps closer to a finished product before we switched...

  • Guys....I too feel the frustration but I think Ron, et.al., are trying to fix the problems ASAP. One big one for me appears to now be fixed (being recognized as a premium member).
Let me use another metaphor, using myself as an example. The board right now is like our FB team. You all know how critical I can be after each game when things don't go well. But our FB team is improving and who knows how good it will be at the end of the season. But the coaches are continually fixing problems as time goes on. So, by analogy, this new board isn't there yet but give the "coaches" time and maybe soon we will have a first class board again.

As for desired features, I would like to have the capability to delete posts I have made.

  • Yeah, I'd like to be able to delete your posts too (see, this is where I'd insert a big giant green smiley and that little "wink" one as well). ; )

But yeah, I was posting on my phone last night and got an error message three times. Later I saw that all three times it had actually gone through, but I didn't see a way to go back and delete.

Anyone know how or if it's possible?

  • Don't think you can delete posts. Also, when you edit your post, you can't remove or change any attachment that you previously added.

    Here's another request: multi-quote.

  • Now that the "where is the premium forum" issue has been cleared up...most of the requests are pretty minor I guess.

The one about deleting your posts is good.

I also came across two....both pretty small.

First....at the top of the page where you click for "boards", can it drop down like it used to so we can just select which board we want to go to? (rather than going to the boards page and selecting from there).

The second is when quoting other people, we can't edit their quote. Sometimes a person writes two paragraphs of information, but I'm responding to only one sentence in one section. It was nice on the other site to be able to quote only that portion that's relevant to the response by deleting the rest of their post.

I know these are all going to be fairly small things. But since a lot of the details of the boards are still in the works, it makes sense to share these things now so they can be considered before everything is complete. So please, all of those involved, don't take it as complaints, but only humble suggestions.
