Enough is Enough... Time to do something

  • I at times get on asoapbox and this is one of them. To start my youngest son who is 34 now was sexually abused by a janitor at a school he attended when he was 8 years old and we didn't find out about it until years later. I hope no one ever ever has this experience but child abuse does exist in the real world.

I keep reading about the outrage many individuals have towards Joe Paterno and all are justified BUT and it's a BIG BUT...most are full of S**T. Here's why....most are giving an opinion about why Joe's statue should be taken down, his name taken off this and that and all that crap. What should be happening and discussed is "How do we help?". Me personally I donate considerably to two organizations who help protect abused kids and have for years. I ask...What have you done lately to help? Joe Paterno did nothing and for anyone to criticize him and do nothing are all hypocritical self serving asses.

Try..Standupforkids.org; Childhood-usa.org or Childhelp.org there are more but these 3 groups are pretty good.

Time to live up to your outrage...Be like Joe or not, it's your choice but it was never the child's choice.

  • I don't have any experience in this subject but I think it'd be a good jester for penn state football to donate a ton of money to those causes.

I also hope that this raises more awareness to the problems. There's lots of sickos trying to get our kids

  • Sorry to hear about your son. No kid should ever have to deal with that.

I like the angle you take, don't complain, do something.

I do think the removal of that statue is doing something. Send a message that no matter who you are, you need to advocate for those in need.

Again, sorry to hear about your experience with this.

I'm guessing you meant "gesture." Penn State seems to have enough jesters already.

Great point, I-T; thanks for sharing your perspective. I think you're exactly right. Everyone's up in arms about Paterno (rightly so) but lost in the shuffle are the victims themselves.

  • I think the outrage with Paterno is that, as you said, he did nothing...when he knew about Sandusky's actions. It is a real story if in fact their so-called hero was turning a blind eye to these horrendous crimes. Of course there should be action taken to help the victims, but this is a serious matter for PSU and they have to uncover all the facts.

The first paragraph really got to me; I felt a deep sorrow for your child.
Going from that great opening statement to a barrage of insults is something you might reconsider.

I appreciate your reply. My intent was not to insult anyone and I apologize if I did so. My frustration stems from people who are adamant with an opinion of what should be done and do nothing to help in the solution of the problem. Even though I believe JP's statue should be taken down, the fact is more attention is given to that and very little being discussed how to help the children. Maybe it's not news worthy but it is the most important thing to do.

Hasn't it been made clear that he knowingly tried to protect the image of Penn State by keeping this from the proper authorities?

Please straighten us out with data that proves he's innocent, because I haven't seen otherwise. Thanks for the expression of your thoughts.

  • The sale of the melted bronze of which the state is forged would make a great donation to a child abuse charity indeed; therefore, removing the statue "would" do something.

I digress, if Paterno did nothing wrong...then, well, his name should be cleared.

I-T means paterno did nothing to stop the abuser...not that he did nothing wrong.
