Elite Coach

  • Reality is tough chiz isn't a elite coach, he is a larry coker frank solitch type. My question is why do we go after unproven coaches in our program? He was a good defense guy when that was all he had to worry about but vince young and cam can cover up a bad defense. Why don't we put all we've got on the table and get a elite coach? I heard on this board that they won't come to auburn,why? If our people keep thinking like that this is as good ss it gets

    The coaches from the following:
    Boise, TCU Okie St, WVU, Miami, Miss St, Louisville, Stanford, Wash St, Oreg St, Iowa, FSU.

    We offer top pay (3+ mil a yr), fertile recruiting area, great conference, great fan base. winning tradition, top 10 all time program.

    I agree with the other poster about wanting to be a consistant winner, year in, year out in the hunt for titles.

    I also agree with what you said here. But the devil is in the details of your list.

    Peterson's shown no interest in any other job, period.
    Patterson maybe but he was cool when we talked to him about it before.
    Gundy's a spread guy. Are we sure we want to go that way? Not sure he's up for a move.
    Holgorson has a really thin hc resume. Impressive thus far, for sure. So was terry bowden after two years.
    Golden is a very good coach. Elite? probably not.
    that sonofab..ch at msu who I will not invoke his name, will never be at AU.
    Strong is just ok.. nothing spectacular.
    Shaw, maybe good who knows... see Holgorson above.
    Ferentz, experienced for sure, not sure I'd call him elite anymore.
    Fisher, Same as Holgorson and Shaw. Not a long track record. But maybe the best fit.
    Riley? bammer?? wow.. cant see that.

    My question is, from your quality list here, who would want to come to AU and fit the bill of ol' obiewan about wanting to build a program to compete for championships year after year. I'm not sure that there's a clear, first choice. I'm not sure that any of them COULDN'T get it done. I'm just saying that looking back four years after the choice is made and saying it wasn't an elite hire is a little easier than shooting ducks in a pond.

    We won it all 2 ago things should be rolling with good times ahead. We suck period. We havent a important sec west game since bama 10. We would expect to see slight dropoff with any coach but a total crash & burn is what we got. I spent 1600 on my tickets this year and result are worse than last year and we weren't competitive in any sec games last year blowouts last year and this year. The whole fanbase is on prozac
