ESPN Prediction: Miss. St. beats Auburn

  • Edward Aschoff: I'm going to put the over/under on how many times we hear the name Cam Newton during the broadcast at 10. I will also put the number of cowbells confiscated at the gates at 20, which is probably low. Oh, and Mississippi State's offensive players must be salivating at the chance to play Auburn's defense. ... Mississippi State 34, Auburn 23

Chris Low: We’ll dub this the Cecil Newton Bowl. Something says Mississippi State won’t be warmly greeted on the Plains, but the Bulldogs look ready to take that next step and become a legitimate contender in the West this season. That starts with winning on the road. … Mississippi State 31, Auburn 24

SEC predictions: Week 2 - SEC Blog - ESPN

We have one week in the bag and it looks like the new guy is on top. Yes, it was a week littered with cupcakes, but like every coach in America says,

  • if MSU scores 31 or 34 points we should be in the game with a chance to win in the 4th qtr.

I guess the thought might be that if MSU controls the line is able to run it like they want and control the clock, they can keep our offense off the field and limit our scoring chances. Possible I guess.

  • These idiots got one thing right..... THEY will dub this the Cecil Newton Bowl.

The idea that we are going to win this game is still in question for me. But I will tell you this, those puppies aint gonna just walk in and kick us around. They will get a warm greeting from the likes of Dee ford and Tha Bull. But in a game that will look much closer than the score board reads I still think they win.

    42-21 Miss St

But it wont be easy and we will not just lay donw. This will just be another bump in the road toward another magical season in 2012.

Possible? Utah State controlled the line so not doubting MSU..

Love my team but also know what I saw last weekend and who we have with regard to youth. Hope I am proved wrong and we expose the dogs as imposters but this could easily be an L for us.

  • Yahoo Sports has MSU winning also and the latest line I've seen is -7 MSU. I got two buddies who both took MSU for $50 each. Looks like I drink free Saturday. Prediction AU 47 - MSU 35.wareagle

I know what you mean, but I think I need to see this team man-handled that way at least 2 or 3 games before I concede that it's the norm. For now, I'm going with it being the exception, not the rule, that we're going to be dominated THAT bad on the lines.

But you're correct, if we aren't significantly different from last week, MSU absolutely will humiliate us. And when I say humiliate, I don't necessarily mean the score board, I just mean physically. Remember, we handled Oregon physically in a pretty dominant way, but it was still only 22-19.

I did really like the mind-set Pelton was preaching to the d-line. Getting pushed around and run over by an offensive line is one of the more denigrating things that can be done to you in football. I hope they take the challenge to their manhood serious and really start fighting.

  • I don't see that MSU really has much of a chance. True we are young and inexperienced but JHS is a formidable foe in it's own right.

  • I'm just looking for us to get better in the running game (we get a 100 rusher) and on D (hold to under 28, solid run D), if that equates to a win, Gravy!

I'm taking the over on Cam Newton references
