Dynamic WR duo heading to AU

  • I don't think that many college defensive backfields can effectively cover 2 athletic, 6'2'+ receivers at the same time. Beef em up a bit, and they should be a real handfull.

I truly believe that every coach that is successful year after year knows the value of recruitinmg. Chizik knew it. Tuberville knew it and you can supply the reason why he didn't in his latter years, all coaches know it. Why are our coaches so successful? You may think of a number of reasons including the fact that Auburn, consistently follows disaster with turned tables and it's fun being on a side that wins when so many believe they will never again. Forget facilities, every one has them now. Forget the attraction of Auburn's bright lights, they probaby don't count over 50 thousand people in the city limits. But, that is an important oversight. There are probably more gracius people in Auburn, Alabama that in several major cities numbering populations in the millions. I think an answer might be that Coach Malzahn has recruited staff that has coaching ability in addition to some guys with an awful lot of personality, easy to see character, and a dedication to upholding the values of a good family. I'm not sure how things like money, the support of our President, and the working of a pretty savvy AD fit in here. But it may be fair to say that it does somehow, and to the benefit of Auburn University.

Good comments. Every school believes in recruiting the best players. How does Auburn seem to be able to recruit no matter who is on the staff? Coach Dye once said that there wasn't much to attract people to Auburn. He said it was the people, and all Auburn had was just each other. There may be something to that. All D1 schools are big and beautiful. There is something about Auburn that makes every staff think that if they can just get the recruit to visit, then they have a great chance to get them to commit. That is the reason that it is upsetting to most Auburn people when certain high-profile recruits act like they are bigger than Auburn. When a player commits to Auburn, it works both ways. Auburn commits to the player, and I mean the student body, the fans, and the coaches. When a player commits to Auburn, it is like joining the family. Family doesn't take it too well when family walks away. There is something about Auburn. Why else when coaches are terminated, they still remain in Auburn? And it's not about the money. They get paid anyway.

Just sayin', it takes more than highly ranked players. Last season was an example of that. I'm really looking forward to seeing Coach Malzahn run his offense his way, and watching Ellis Johnson do his thing as he has at other stops. No doubt, Auburn has a staff filled with top-notch , experienced recruiters, but improvement on the field will help more than anything to attract top players to the program. I will be glad to get signing day over with, but I'm really looking forward to spring practice news.

Actually, the season we had last time around tends to help recruiting - so long as 3-9 isn't something they see consistantly (incidentally they saw 8-5, 14-0, 8-5 before that) and so long as you have hard charging recruiters. It's the current occupants who will tell the tale, however, going forward into next spring, summer and fall. And, it remains to be seen if this staff will be able to make those guys their guys and put together another +3 record or even close to that level of success.
