Dyer ? for Phillip

  • I asked this question in a previous thread - II'm sure it got overlooked because the thread has gotten extremely long... But I am eager to hear your thoughts on this subject so here goes...

Can you please offer your insight as to why Malzahn would be interested in having Dyer at ASU Yes, I know he would be a total stud for ASU, but from everything I"ve heard, GM is a man of integrity and I just can't imagine him wanting to bring a known "problem player" into his new team. Kristi Malzahn made it perfectly clear that Dyer had issues. She more than likely got those sentiments from things Gus has told her. If MD has an ego at Auburn where there is a LOT of talent, how much of an ego will he have at ASU where he will be big man on campus? I'm not surprised to hear he is transferring from AU after all the things we have heard regarding his ego and that his teammates may not be so fond of his attitude. Not to mention that we all know that Chiz doesn't mess around when it comes to discipline. But I am really surprised to hear he is going with Malzahn. Does this suggest that GM doesn't have issue with him? I'd really like to her your thoughts - this situation just doesn't make sense...

You ask some great questions - I have been wondering the exact same thing. Something is not adding up here. My feelings are if he leaves for ASU then he is leaving us. If he leaves for somewhere else, then we are leaving him. I am fine with him leaving or staying, I just don't like for football to get political.

It's always about running, tackling, blocking, throwing and conditioning. No more, no less.

  • Maybe CGM feels like the kid needs a new start and being closer to home his family can help. Just because he had issues at auburn does not mean he doesnt deserve another chance at another school. I agree he should not be at au anymore but if cgm feels he can make him get his crap together then more power to him. Sounds like he needs what my dad gave me growing up. A good swift kick in the arse!!

Let's don't paint Mike Dyer as some kind of criminal. He's had some issues, whatever they are. His family thinks it would be better for him to be close to home. Gus Malzahn recruited him and they are very close. He will not be the last player Gus Malzahn takes who has had some issues.

Based on your response, it sounds like a done deal ???

That's really disappointing that we let Malzahn walk with him ? Our program has invested a lot into him.

Sometimes I wonder why we recruit "unknowns" when we probably should work a lot harder on those we already have.

You think Mike Dyer hasn't also invested a lot in Auburn?

I know he has. That's why I tend to think that he wanted to go with Malzahn all along and some of this suspension stuff is overblown. Until I see evidence for myself that he does things unworthy of the uniform, I am skeptical that he did anything wrong at all.

That said, we are need of complete backs (run, block & catch) anyway. The bigger and thicker, the better.

  • You're right PM. JUst an unfortunate situation all the way around. The one thing that puzzles me is the comments about certain levels of discourse between MD and rest of team. Can you comment on that? I understand if that puts you in a bad place and would rather stay away from it.
