That is sort of the way I feel. I know there is cussing in football, the world, everywhere, and I used to a lot. The words still bang around in my head, but I wanted a vocabulary better than that. I still cuss at myself too much, but not within anyone else's earshot. It is a struggle, and for someone who is esteemed by so many, I feel like he cheapened something today. We have the high ground, I was hoping we could hold it for awhile.

  • I loved it!!!! Coach Chizik, in my opiniion, did not cheapen anything today!!!

I know he is a class guy and a good man. I knew there would be reactions like yours. It is just my opinion, not a criticism. I wish he had not done it, but I am not going to condemn him for it. No doubt he is a good man, in every sense of the word.

I am with you, wargator79. I would have preferred him not to say it. War Eagle sounds better. Of course, I sing "hit 'em high, hit 'em low" instead of "give 'em hell, give 'em hell" on the fight song, too (like it used to be printed in the program decades ago). So, I guess I am a prude, too.

I'm with you and the couple others who've posted similar sentiments. Not saying I'm perfect and have never let such words pass from my lips, either. As a wise person once told me, the English language offers too many other choices.

At any rate, I too am still ALL IN and proud of our coaches and players. By the way, I didn't know that the fight song was originally "hit em high, hit em low." Thanks for that tidbit of trivia!

    WAR EAGLE!!!

he said she's out of the country. just him and his daughters. he's let his hair down. maybe by the time she gets home it will all be a anxious memory in his household.

As I said originally, "I know, I know, I know..." and I knew there would be some with this reaction. The reactions run the gamut depending on YOUR moral standards, from the angry and vicious to the same sentiments as mine. I am not acting like a prude, I am a prude when it comes to trying to teach morals to my children, grandchildren, and students. And, as I said before, I am NOT judging Coach Chizik. I still think he is a man of integrity and if I had a grandson who wanted to play for him, I would have no problem with it. Matter of fact, I have not CALLED him anything but good things. All I said was, I wish he had not have said it in public. Period.

You spelled "Damn" wrong. Yours is, "Do you know what the fish said when he hit the concrete wall? Dam!"

    was it george carlin?

  • ssauburn...my thoughts exactly. Who sat down and made the list of words to be considered BAD? Probably my mom, but I have decided it is your motive for what you say more than the actual words. Anybody want to speculate CHIZIK's heart in speaking those words? My translation...I LOVE AUBURN.

Wonder who decided that "damn" was a cuss word.

My best guess would be it came from the religious community. In the Bible it has the negative connotation of being "damned". Nobody wants to be "damned" so "damning" someone would be considered extremely mean. Just my twocents.

As for CGC... I respected him when I first heard War Darn Eagle. I respect him just the same now. I respect the views of those who wish he had stuck with just War Eagle or War Darn Eagle and I can fully understand your convictions. And I respect those who cheer him for fully embracing the tradition of the phrase War Damn Eagle. In the grand scheme of things, it doesn't much matter. I think those who are disappointed were holding CGC up to a certain ideal that CGC had built for himself with how he has conducted himself in public and it probably is a bit of a letdown. It's kind of like finding out your personal hero isn't 100% perfect or the saint you thought him to be.

Either way, I still love ALL of my Auburn Family, even the guy who was heckling at the basketball game (we all have a cousin we love but we're not proud of lol). And you won't find me criticizing those for their beliefs or discounting them.

    War Eagle!
