Cracker Barrel Response - Foley, AL

  • Below is the response from Cracker Barrel pertaining to the Foley AL store. Sounds like corporate is convinced Auburn merchandise will not sell in Foley. Although I don't live there, I'm not buying there's not a large number of AU fans in Foley and the surrounding area willing to buy AU merchandise let alone all the AU tourist going to the beach. The statement that is really laughable is "Foley store has not carried Auburn merchandise for at least two years. This is because the Foley store is unusual in that it is located in a resort town rather than a routine residential community.". WTF - AU fans don't visit resort towns? It's actually the opposite - the majority of Updykes live in trailer parks and never leave the county they live in. As for Florence, I have no clue. I plan to respond but wanted get some feedback first. WDE!

"Thank you for taking the time to share your comments with all of us here at Cracker Barrel Old Country Store.  We're always pleased to hear from our guests.

26 of the 29 stores in Alabama carry Auburn merchandise as well as 2 in Georgia. The three Alabama stores that do not carry Auburn merchandise are: Foley, Florence, and Tuscaloosa.  Florence doesnt have it because Florence is home to Northern Alabama and Tuscaloosa doesnt have it because it is home to U of Alabama. Foley doesnt have it because it is a resort community that can support collegiate sales for only one school.  Auburn merchandise simply wont sell in these three locations.

Foley store has not carried Auburn merchandise for at least two years. This is because the Foley store is unusual in that it is located in a resort town rather than a routine residential community. We appreciate being made aware of how passionate Auburn fans are about their university and will include some Auburn collegiate items in both our Foley and Florence stores beginning this fall. We cannot add the Auburn merchandise immediately because it is the end of the season and our 2011/2012 collegiate stock for all of the schools we carry is almost depleted.

Our stores in resort towns in all states, not just Alabama, have different sales patterns which can support only one colleges items. We simply cant carry everything, like a sporting goods store would. I know its small comfort, but this happens in some of our destination stores in Florida, involving schools down there, too. You can also order items you want through our guest relations department. If you see a particular sweatshirt or t-shirt that you like, simply call 800-333-9566 and tell them you want to order it with the Auburn University logo and we will get it for you.

We look forward to seeing you in one of our locations again soon.

    Sincerely,

    Pam Seay

  • So when Auburn fans go to the beach this summer, spending money, they won't have the AU gear available. That's a brilliant sales strategy! So why does the Opelika store sell both school's gear, when it is located so close to Auburn?

  • Kinda funny to me. Cracker Barrel is based on the country red-neck theme, and they don't carry Auburn stuff. Maybe there is something else going on. Maybe Ken Stabler has Foley all locked up.

Lets get it straight though. they wont sell Au merch in tuscaloser but tehy sure as hell do at teh Opelika Cb and ALL OTEHRS... No matter what state I am ever in they always split it up for the biggest teams int eh state and for that matter even the little guys get a couple shirts.

this is a crock of crap. they dont do it because of some sort of pressure from some idiot bama fans. be honest with your guests loser!

i can give you a million BS answers. But just because i gave you some BS does not mean that I am telling the truth.

And that answer that Pam gave was at best a complete farce of an answer. Foley is no more a resort town than I am a Pro football player.

I am in the Food and BBev industry. Folks respond way better to the truth. Not BS crap that even the silliest of folks know is BS

That is a good question and the reason that Cracker Barrel is no longer on my list of acceptable establishments. Personally I am recommending all my Auburn friends do the same for any of their stores anywhere, not just in Foley. They obviously don't want our business.

I am "All In" with this, but I never frequent Cracker Barrel any way.
