Cooper Bateman's offensive coordinator at Cottonwood High in Salt Lake City, Utah, Scott Cate, issued the following statement from Bateman:
'This has been a great time in my life, I have had the rare opportunity to be able to choose from many great schools that would allow me to get a college degree and continue to play the game that I love. This has been a very difficult decision only because I was able to meet and get to know so many wonderful coaches at so many great universities. I have chosen to attend the University of Alabama. I am honored that I will get to learn from Coach Saban and Coach Nussmeier and will get to represent Alabama, the state and the University. I want to thank my coaches at Cottonwood for all they have done for me and mostly to my parents who have made this all possible.'

As I remember it, just a few years ago a Utah team whipped a Crimson Tide team that had whipped an Auburn Team just a few weeks before that. Wonder if they were quarterbacked by a "Mormom Pansy.? And the memory of, hardly a football power, Utah State coming into our back yard and nearly beating Gene Chizik's first team doesn't underpin a pansy picture at all. I lived with those folks for several months, and didn't find any Pansys. One of us has been misled. In fact, I thought they had a work ethic and hospitable nature very much like our own.
