When AU hired 5-19 Gene Chizik, a sizable group of fans opposed the hiring. There was still some complaining in 2009, but most were willing to give him a pass in lieu of the mess left behind by CTT and the BBQ gang. In 2010, those fans jumped on the winning bandwagon, yet at the same time, they still had serious reservations. Last year, they became a lot more vocal because of the overwhelming losses, but the youth and CTT devastation argument pretty much held sway. Then this year, after Clemson, these people came out of the woodwork like roaches after midnight. The problem is that CGC and the team has done nothing to silence them, but have only encouraged others to demand changes.
Now, there is a push to hire Petrino, but there is a sizable group who want to see a new coach, but oppose his hiring. If he is hired, these people will be the new group ready to pounce on every mistake and discretion Petrino makes.
In contrast, it is my view that not only do we need a new coach, we need someone who can unite our fan base, not splinter it into deeper and deeper factions. We need someone with a history of winning programs and player development, as well as a man of integrity whose words and life truly represent the character of this school and it's fans. I'm not proposing anyone for the job, only this unifying qualification.

Scot by blood, Southerner by Birth, Auburn Tiger by choice - War Eagle!
Agree somewhat, but almost every Auburn fan i know was cursing irate when we went JABA and hired Chizik. I only warmed up to him when I saw he was capable of hiring good assts. I assumed he would be hands off. little did I know. CBP keeping trrop and CBVG will soothe alot of these naysayers from the get-go.
There is always going to be opposing factions when you deal with a large fan base where there are 2-3 groups pushing their guy. The one thing about the Petrino hire, no one will ever question his coaching ability, or decisions on the field. Petrino is the best offensive mind in the game and will make Auburn a legitimate NC contender in year two. The individuals against the hire will never question that Auburn hired the best coach available in Petrino.

It's always this way. Unity is great but in sports, winning creates unity. Any candidate for HC will have a minority who is against him. Considering his record of success, I actually Petrino will be one of the more popular candidates despite his past personal problems.
Alabama delenda est.
When the alumni and fan base see the team that Petrino puts on the field, we will be united as never before. He is premier coach - it will be a horrible mistake by JJ and the gang to not hire this man.
Hopefully I've now corrected everything. My mind wasn't fully alert when I misspelled either name. I've spelled them both correctly in the past. Thanks for bringing it to my attention.
