I fear the state media will find every negative spin to try to divide au support. For that fact alone i think hiring him would be too risky. We need someone everyone would get behind and support. I think as fans we would have to spend more energy trying to defend BP than praising him and our AD. We need a united voice of praise and support. I wish to those with power look to the auburn creed and let that be your guide as to who we would all be proud of.
I'm an Auburn man and I'm darn proud of it!
Wins will cure all
It really doesn't matter who we hire, shortly after the brief honeymoon they ( uat media, rec, etc ) will go into full attack mode on the AU family. Just brace yourselves and pay them little attention but believe you me it is coming no matter the hire - WDE
ON TO VICTORY - STRIKE UP THE BAND
Well it will likely be a long 275 or so days until he has his first opportunity to get one of those.
Yep. The media spin will be negative regardless. The better a coach we hire, the more negative it'll be. Nothing new. Did you experience 2010?
We won in spite of those people. We gave them the finger and kept on going. Time to do that again and to hire the one guy that Alabama fans don't want us to hire: Bobby Petrino. It will be a one year turn around. We will win 8-9 games next year and will be back to competing for SEC Titles in 2014.
If we can survive 49 to Zip. I think we will survive.
I agree, but the pro-petrino crowd is fine with the fan base being divided for a season or two assuming that petrino will win, which would most likely get almost everyone behind him... i think the opposite, i think that we need someone who will unite the fan base immediately
Yeah.... After this year I'm not sure the media can do any more damage than has already been done.
What coach in the entire world would get as much of a negative spin as Petrino? Jerry Sandusky?
They would negatively spin Jesus (that hair!). We're gonna face some either way, but Petrino comes with baggage that is actually incredibly easy to latch onto negatively, because it crosses multiple lines.
"you're so vain, I'll bet you think this post is about you, don't you? Don't you?"
"Get in where you fit in." Life is, Too Short TL;DR
why would anyone oppose the next "new" HC no matter who it is. Cutting Chizik loose and hiring just about anybody will be a huge upgrade. Those who get their little feelings hurt can just stay home and shut the hell up if they don't like the choice, good or bad it will beat the pants off what we currently have - WDE
We can only go up at this point
The media won't have to do that.
Well, there is the lateral move in a different direction. Jus' sayin'.
Exchange one problem for another.

The national media crucified little nickey for his dishonesty in leaving Miami. That has been a huge obstacle and is probably what has kept him from succeeding at ... oh, wait ... I guess he's doing ok. What the press does & says should be the least of our concerns; do what's best for Auburn University and to hell with what others think. Most of them have a very different agenda.
I'm not personally a BP fan but he's probably the only coach who can start immediately without the usual 'deserting his team' charges. If Auburn fans could overcome initial shock and rally around CGC (as we did) we can accept anyone. Personally, I would rather roll the dice with Gus than overlook the faults of BP but I will support (in my heart) any coach we hire.
On the other hand, my significant financial support of the Auburn athletic program will be greatly curtailed until the irresponsible leadership of JJ/TJ has ended ... and this is from someone who knows & likes JJ as a person (I don't know anyone who likes TJ). Now is the time to move in a different, more professional direction with Auburn's AD. Unfortunately, I think this opportunity is going to be wasted. If you've been on the club level waiting list I'm thinking this is your year!
Um hello. They do that now that Auburn has a boyscout. Auburn is always going to catch shit, deal with it.
I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
