Panama City, FL resident. Will be driving up Saturday morning. Where's the best place to stay that's convenient to I-85 west side? Is MARTA the easiest transportation to the GA Dome?
Marta is only $4 dollars round trip. and most MARTA stations are free to park at. So not too sure I agree with the comment of being a no brainer on money. However, you are absolutely right about the driving situation. If you park at that church you will be back in you car and on the interstate before you ever get on the MARTA bus under the stadium. That would be an advantage to parking at the church.
To the OP: The Dome is on the East-West lines so If I were you I would go to a station on the west side of the city not the south. Take 285 north and find a station on the west. This should also help you avoid the traffic. I would not suggest parking anywhere on the south side of the MARTA. The rail goes from 5 points to the airport and there are no "safe" stations to go to in that area. I would stay away at all possibilities on that route. If you are staying in Atlanta for the weekend I would suggest staying in Downtown, Midtown, or Buckhead and you can easily access the north line for these parts of town. MARTA isn't that bad but it will take 30 minutes to get to a nearby station from the Dome after the game and if the station involves going through 5 points then it will take an hour.
Oh no he didn't
If you don't already have a reservation, you should make one ASAP. There are a lot of events in ATL that weekend (Comic Con, Auburn night at Turner Field, Chick Fil A kickoff classic games Friday AND Saturday to name a few).

I travel quite a bit and when trying to find the best place for me I usually use www.tripadvisor.com It has independent reviews of the hotels.
See if the downtown Hilton has rooms. That's where I stay every time I go to ATL. Nice hotel. Right next to the aquarium Olympic park and the coca cola factory and CNN building. You can see the GA dome from you window so possible walking distance or a short cab ride. Also if you go to a braves game the cab ride is between 20-30 bucks round trip.
Thanks everyone for the advice!
If you haven't booked a room by now, you are probably going to be screwed. Also, if your goal is to be stabbed by a shank made out of a melted tooth brush, then yes, MARTA is the way to go. I'd stay away from MARTA if at all possible. There are tons of cabbies and buses that can take you there.
Oh and stay away from the South and East sides of Atlanta in general.... rough stuff.

I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
