Fairly new and haven't ever posted a new topic, but with all the discussion of whether this will be a successful/good class I wondered what our thoughts are on what constitutes a good/successful class. Maybe a good topic until we hear more news on this class. My thoughts are that success would be a class that can produce 10 starting players within the four years the class is in school. Hopefully, within that group we would have a couple that will become all conference. (3 to 4) and each year or so we are able to gain a first team all american or special award winner (Thorpe award, Lombardi winner or something similar) I don't have any idea of what previous classes may or may not have achieved those standards but we seem to be getting closer with last year and this year's group.
Ideally, I'd get one top QB and a full Oline and Dline in every class. Everything else would work itself out.
Well on Tuesday night it was a ok class and was not happy ab it. Now it's turned into a very good class. We have quality players that's for sure. However, we need to load up defensive recruits next year, there is no question and I'll be extremely disappointed if its not a defensive laden class. Anyways all in all we are stacked on OL for next three years more than anybody else in the country IMO. I really like our class. Add diggs and this is a top 5 class or close to it.
And because Auburn men and women believe in these things, I believe in Auburn and love it.

You gave a good answer to your question. I will tell you in 2-3 years if this class of recruits was a good one. Right now all I can say is we certainly need talent and depth on the OL and WR. On paper it looks like we got that.
I consider it a good class when you have a bunch of those guys playing really well two or three years in.
When you get your share of really good players that other quality programs wanted. In the 80s, Miami's classes were ranked on average 18th and they dominated. If you are in the Top 20 and you meet your needs, you are doing very well and you probably have some 3 stars (like Colt McCoy) who will out perform your 5 stars.
Like others have said you can't really evaluate the strength of a class until 2-3 years down the road, but notice Scout now has us at #9. They also have Diamond and Young as 5 stars -- good to see.
Results = a good class. Rankings don't mean squat!
Filling the needs of the team with quality Auburn men.
A perfect class is one that fills your needs perfectly.
Ideally, each class will basically be a 22 man team. But this method is only effective once you have a balanced team and Auburn hasn't had the benefit of settling in with ideal recruiting. Tuberville left our roster in such a mess that we have been trying to patch holes since Chizik arrived. I believe that next year, will be our first class where we really have no major focus, outside of linebackers. We finally have quarterback depth, running back depth, line depth, receiver depth, still have defensive end depth and secondary depth. Our needs will be a couple defensive tackles and around 4 linebackers.
Thanks to all of you for the above input. After reading our thoughts and then thinking abut the passion many now have for the recruiting process I think I would add that a "perfect class" would give a school some positive publicity on signing day (being rated as having a top 10 or top 5 class). That publicity may carry over to positive thoughts when fans decide to contribute and when younger high schoolers decide where to go to JR days, summer camps, etc.
WE COMING . WAR EAGLE !
I'll tell you, I'd take our class over that other teams in the state every day of the week and twice on Sunday! I predict we win at least a SEC championship with this class
