Trent Richardson's Recruitment Problem for the Turds

  • rcollier said... (original post)

Who cares if it is true or not. It dont make a tinkers damn to me, all I desire is for Auburn to kick that ass on the football field, court, arena, jackstones or horse-shoes. War Eagle Baby!!

Same attitude that lots of Auburn people carried for decades. Only until people like John Thrower gave a tinkers damn did the playing field get leveled. Without a few select people like him caring, we wouldn't be enjoying the level playing field success that we are enjoying. And as soon as Auburn people don't give a tinkers damn anymore, it will shift back. Keep your friends close and your enemies closer.....

You know, I hate bammer as much as anyone, but throwing around baseless rumor as fact is exactly what the bammers (and a lot of others) are doing with regards to our recruitment of Cam. Unless you have actual evidence, STFU.

He had specific examples with great detail. There was never any specific example given about Cam and certainly zero detail. So why don't you STFU?

I will say it again... this whole Auburn mess with CN is not over yet... until we make sure we have not done anything wrong let's not worry about what someone else is or is not doing... i am telling you from sources that we will hear more of this CN mess before it is all said and done... the media is not gonna just let it go away... they are digging trust me on that... I just hope we kept our noses clean on this one...

If we didn't then we deserve to get hammered. I would hope we were smarter than that. The guy got recruited for 3 weeks. I seriously doubt even the dumbest of recruiters would offer money to a guy that they had a 3 week relationship with. Not to mention a guy that they really didn't like as a player until the last minute. Something tells me Jay Jacobs wouldn't allow that to happen and even moreso that Gene Chizik wouldn't.

If we took the approach you prescribed, we would be back to the 70's because we'd only be worried when the hammer was gonna drop on Auburn again instead of keeping our ear to the ground on the shady crap from West Vance.

Very good point, one that I had not thought of. If I remember correctly, GM had to talk CGC into recruiting Newton.

  • Man you are a Tide fan go to your network with this mess. Go buy some more Escalades in T town.

  • Wow! How do these SOB's get away with this stuff? Ray Charles could see that these cars are bought and paid for by UA!

  • Keep this crap on TOS. Sick of these postings.

  • Those pictures don't mean anything. Banks and car dealerships are very willing to give loans and credit, especially for these guys who probably have a future in the league. Athletes are held to a different standard. LeBron's mom got a loan and bought him a hummer while he was still in high school for his birthday one year! When Tim Brown was at Notre Dame, he had no money, but won the Heisman Trophy and got on the cover of SI. He took the Sports Illustrated cover with him to a Porche dealership and said to the manager “I'm going to be rich, here is my note, can I have a Porsche.” They gave it to him! He paid it back after he made it to the league, but it kind of illustrates what banks and dealerships are willing to do for athletes.

I'm not trying to justify, or even insinuate that they aren't guilty or that I don't think they are guilty. But it can be explained away pretty easily.

Keep this stuff on other boards, rumor is rumor. I agree with the folks saying that we shouldn't sink to that level.

I keep my friends close and put a pump knot on my enemies top knot. Same thing as winning on the field. To hell with bama and what they do. If there is evil doing going on it will come out. War Eagle Baby!!!!

Buckeye...you are definitely talking about a different time....even if it was only a few years ago. With the government bailouts, etc , underwriting loans is tougher than ever. Tim Brown would not be able to do that in today's market unless he had a top notch co-signer (unless the person who owned the dealership was a ND fan). The kids in school today cannot get these types of expensive car loans unless they have the income to justify it, a co signer that has the justfied means, or someone just gives it to them. These are just facts in today's financial loan markets.

Remember: If The Jury Box Is Stacked With Foxes...The Chicken Is Always Guilty

  • What's with the -1?

My point was not that they are doing what Tim Brown did. The purpose of the Tim Brown story was to show the different standards that athletes are held to a different standard, that people are more willing to benefit them, and because it was a funny story.

My point was not that they got these cars through loans from banks or cause the dealer was willing based upon their futures in the league, or because the dealer was a bama fan. (Though that does still happen, no matter how difficult it is).

My point is that things like that can be explained away pretty easily. You need more than pictures.

We have some that down vote a post just because they disagree..which is not the intent of the feature. Looking back at your post got me to wondering...wonder what TIm Brown is doing now?
    Maybe selling cars to athletes...lol

Remember: If The Jury Box Is Stacked With Foxes...The Chicken Is Always Guilty

  • Well you'd think selling cars to athletes is certainly more believable than NASCAR, but apparently not haha

  • Do we not all see a trend here?

We swear on our relatives graves that they know nothing but cheating at Alabama. They give parents jobs, cars, maybe cash, etc.

Go to Georgia fans. They swear on their relatives graves that we're cheating, as does Alabama. LSU swears Florida is cheating. Florida swears FSU is cheating. Tennessee swears everyone is cheating.

I would venture to say that the worst of those accused are not nearly as bad as we think they are (these days at least). And I would venture to say that any program that thinks they are clean are not nearly as clean as they think. It's like that coaching saying, "you're never as good as you think you are after a win and never as bad as you think you are after a loss".

    Same here I would imagine.

Consider the implications of what all these fan bases think (us included). Each fan base assumes the other programs are dirty, but not theirs. For example, South Carolina fans probably assume an Auburn booster paid for Cam. Yet they don't assume a Carolina booster paid to get Lattimore, who was much higher on Auburn's board than Cam was. See, we must have paid for Cam, they assume, but for them, wow, they won a legit recruiting battle for Lattimore. See, that's the irony we all live by...each and every fan base.

What are the odds that each fan base is correct that their program is totally clean? Everyone can't be right.

Just some thoughts and the inherent danger in being too vocal in our accusations and/or self-righteousness.

Difference is that we learned our lesson a long time ago (I certainly hope we did) and never made it an artform in the first place. Have you ever heard a bammer talk about the Orange War Eagle Club? Nope. Why? It doesn't exist. Auburn fans offer examples like Richard Todd's sports car and the list goes on and on. When you go to a uga or uf, etc site you get blanket statements like "I know they are cheating" and rarely any examples. Is Auburn innocent historically? Heck no. But it's not an organized way of life like the REC. Like I said, some select people like Stump Thrower are as much a reason that Auburn is where it is like Pat Dye is. Does that make one more or less important? No, that's not what I'm pointing out. What I am pointing out is without one of them Auburn would not be where it's at today. Pat Dye will tell you the same. He couldn't get Auburn to the promised land in his 12 years. And it was 18 years later when we finally made it. You could see the tied turn in this state off the field when Dubose went down and the Memphis (which was a UT booster that stuck his neck out by the way that made that happen) and Jelks scandals made it's long trip to the light of day. Pat Dye changed us in a lot of ways but there are some brave folks without all the spotlight and glory that made it happen as well.

There is no program that takes cheating to a level as uat. Why is the University of MIssissipi not more successful on the field historically? Lots of money, lots of old South good old boy connections. My answer is they didn't build their network of competitive advantage quick enough and they weren't as good at it. Neither was Auburn. Well, for a long time we didn't have the money to compete and now that we do, we've been hammered for petty crimes by the NCAA to the point where we can't afford to get caught.

For that matter, why hasn't UT been more successful. Lots of support, lots of money. Again, they weren't first to the market in the buying players game and they weren't as good. If people think uat was just so much better than everybody else by better coaching and good fortune then I got some oceanfront property in Demopolis for sale. I grew up in Alabama and paid attention. Knew guys from my home area that played for and even coached under Bear. They loved to brag about what they got away with and they did. Yes, times have changed the REC network some but if you take your hand off their neck and quit squeezing, they WILL return - bigger and better than ever.

Long live Stump Thrower and Mark Green. The Irontigers of the world are watching our backs. Thank God somebody is or a lot of y'all would be looking up one day wondering what in the heck happened and how did they get so good again so quick.....

Listen, I've lived in GA for 13 years since I left Auburn and there is nothing going on with uga that will remotely compare to uat's motis operandi. Again, uga can't come close to uat's historical winning. There's a reason why and it ain't that they work or play harder than anybody else.
