Toomer's Trees Poisoned; Unlikely to Survive

  • Picked up so it has

Oak trees poisoned at Auburn University's Too

Auburn University says someone deliberately poisoned trees at Toomer's Corner, and that the live oaks likely can't be saved.

  • We have to take the high road in this...talk to the craziest friends fans you know and make sure we all show the class Auburn stands for. As the outsiders crack sick jokes in the minutes, hours, and days that follow, many will push our buttons but we can't be stupid. Lets all hope that the trees being dormant at this time of year allows our experts to come in and save the day. If not then we figure out a way to replace them. We can all take a little solice in the fact that as this plays out in the days to come, it will continue to cast a very unkind picture of the Bama Nation. You also have to think that every home game next year will be a chance to remind the whole country which fanbase went to far. They will take an image hit like no one has ever seen.

  • I agree with no retaliation but "Al"from Dadeville should be held accountable. it should not be hard to find him area code 256 and most follow w/825 .then xxxx. Car tags are 62 .... for Tallapoosa county. He is probably a logger and there are a couple of feed/seed in town that will know him (floyd's and the other is a russell company). I pass through on the way to the lake and it is truly disappointing to say the least.

I also hold finebaum accountable as he fans the lunatic mainstream that are AL fans (not fringe) on his AL entertainment network now nationwide launching that idea after the 2009 Natl champs. he keeps stories alive that are not stories and perpetuates negativity and promotes silly Au fans (charles & tammy) to ridicule. One day.............

Exactly. I've been trying to point out the same but my anger has been getting in the way.

They'll catch this fool. I live 20 miles from Dadeville and I guarantee someone will recognize his voice. One thing though, that may not be his name and he may not be from Dadeville, but it sounds like they are pulling phone records and such.
I wonder about the cameras at Toomers, if they store video. He pretty much gave the date that he did it. I'm guessing he poured out a few cups or something, just a thought.
My opinion, this will not play good for the bammer mullets tomorrow. They will be guilty by association and trashed nationwide. Won't bring our trees back though.
    Maybe they can be saved.............

  • I have to speak my peace. You only appreciate the things you have after they are gone. I assumed those trees would be there forever. You really don't realize what it means to you till you think they are gone. Let's hope through prayer, love and science those same two trees are always there because I just assumed the place me, my dad, my grandad, my grandmother, mom and wife have all stood and admired and thought was beutiful at the same time, would be there. Now I feel a sense of urgency to take my kids quickly because they haven't been yet and are two of the biggest AU fans I know. I'm serioiusly considering the spring game. Soooo sad.

To try to put a positive spin on it, I think the nation now might know what we are dealing with. Those two trees might do the most for us as a positive PR than anything I know because obviously a NC couldn;'t do it. Almost every ala fan I know thinks this is awful. This dude is the luniatic fringe. I hope justice is served to everyone involved and that is all we can hope for. The tradition will continue and probably be stronger but those two trees are 100 years old. Love those trees.

  • Thought, if the trees do die, and I hope and pray they don't, maybe Auburn could have the oaks turned into oak hardwood and put down in the entrance in Samford Hall or somewhere where all fans can walk on and remember them. So that they will always be apart of Auburn University.
