AUBURN - Auburn's women's basketball team took command early in the second half and smashed UAB 80-57 in the first round of the WNIT on Wednsday night at Auburn Arena. The Tigers will play the winner of the game between Western Kentucky and East Carolina in the second round.
Tyrese Tanner, a Birmingham native, had a huge game with 29 points.

With mostly subs in the game for Auburn now, this one is officially a blowout. The Tigers lead 71-45 with 4:59 left. Auburn will beat the Blazers for the 16th straight time and run their all-time record in the series to 30-4.
Tyrese Tanner, a Birmingham native, is playing lights out and Auburn has blown this one open. Tanner has scored 19 points and the Tigers are up 20, 54-34 with 10:29 left.
Auburn's pressing defense has taken a toll on UAB. The Tigers have 21 points off turnovers and lead 45-29 with 12:50 left.

Alverson finally connects and converts a three-point play. Auburn leads 35-26 at the media timeout with 15:49 left and Peyton Davis will be shooting two free throws coming out.
Alverson can't buy one. She's 0-for-7 and Auburn is clinging to a 32-26 lead with 17:10 left in the game.
Auburn leads UAB 27-22 at halftime. It shouldn't be this close. Blanche Alverson, who scored 32 points against Mississippi State here on Senior Day, had a dreadful first half, going 0-for-4 from the field. The Tigers missed a bunch of uncontested shots.
Auburn leads 23-16 at the last first-hallf media timeout with 3:45 left. UAB won't go away, though Auburn is dominating every statistical category.
Auburn leads 19-12 at the media timeout with 754 left in the first half. The Tigers are bigger and more athletic, but UAB has hung around by hitting three 3-pointers and because Auburn has missed a handful of point blank shots.
Auburn leads UAB 11-6 with 11:28 left in the first half in the WNITfirst-round game at Auburn Arena.
