I believe the HBO four and the Bagman story did more damage to Auburn's recruiting than anything!
Even though the NCAA found nothing we (AU PR) did nothing to undo the damage done to our public image. Auburn let this powerful NCAA exoneration sail like a ship in the night. The Auburn Administration and Coaches did not take a stand and say ENOUGH IS ENOUGH. I wanted to see SOMEONE, ANYONE from Auburn ruffle a few feathers PUBLICLY of all finger pointers.
These finger pointers knew nothing and had no proof! They only had agendas. They all knew that mire accusation was enough to stop Auburn and what this staff was building. This High Road approach though admirable does not work when you have to deal with the likes that reside in this state, GA, FL, and LA.
I was pumped when CGC addressed the NCAA's lack of resolution to the Cam case and its negative impact on Auburn's recruiting. Did anyone come to his side to agree? Hell NO! Instead the story was spun to make CGC look like a fool. Paul Finebaum and his ilk pounded this story into the ground. When the NCAA letter became public we hardly heard a whisper.
I assure you every school that we lost a recruit too or are going head to head with on remaining targets all have leverage the HBO story and the Bagman story against us. How in the name of Sam did we lose Bush to Miami? Anybody but Miami, Please. Couple this and an extended period of no coordinators, bad losses to our four biggest rivals and you have our current predicament.
IMO it is not too late to mitigate the damage and turn a few losses and make a public stand NOW, before NSD. I am sure many of you believe our coaches have done everything they can to overcome this negative recruiting. I am asking, pleading that they do more and do it loudly. We need a Hugh Public Commitment to shout it for us. We need every firmly committed recruit to call these remaining targets and let them know the truth. The Nation needs to HEAR the NCAA's finding and HEAR it loudly. Auburn PUBLICLY calling out HBO, Danny Sheridan, Joe Shad, and every Ahole who had nothing but BOL fed info is a place great start. It can't wait till after NSD. It should already have been done. It's not to late.
Now are you going to down vote me for expecting Auburn to act like champions and to smack anyone who tries to bring Auburn down or are you going to take the lead and do everything in your power to make this truth be known. Auburn.
FEARLESS AND TRUE! We need to live it and quit being nice about it.
The Hbo story was addressed by the NCAA... And anyone who says that the info from the report is true... well the NCAA says that they lied...because there is no proof and/or collaboration.
Yes we all wish someone would pay... but it is really hard to really have an effect unless true intent is discovered and even if you have that it is still an uphill battle.
No one has to pay; just the truth needs to be brought to the forefront. I don't believe the effort to do so have been adequately taken. It’s not too late and the ones who are reached and were negatively recruited with these lies might have second thoughts. What do we have to lose?
Do or Do Not, There is no try!!
the one who gave this reply a needs to sackup and explain WTH for. Geez! I guess some of us just want to quit. Pichel? Is that you? Plus 3 before your call. Wazzzz up?

Eagleson it is late and I hope you are resting comfortably after your meltdown post. The last thing we need to do is defend ourselves. Whining and crying about that crap is silly and quite frankly what losers do. For the first time in a long time we have a coaching staff that Is out busting their ass from coast to coast recruiting the top
players in the country. And do you know
why they are able to do that? Because they
are not wasting their time looking in the
rearview mirror. They are looking forward
not backwards because that's what winners
do. Even if we were to raise hell and tell
everyone that will listen that everyone was
wrong and they lied there will always be
people that will not believe it anyway. Who
cares what they think. Outside of the
knuckleheads in East Mississippi nobody is
worried about Auburn. The rest of the
country has moved on and so should you.
Look forward and never let em see you
sweat. Goodness gracious you are a Tiger aren't you? If so, quit acting like a dad gum pussy cat. Good night...

"Get in where you fit in." Life is, Too Short TL;DR
I don't know if anyone saw the year end HBO show of the "Inside Sports" or whatever it was called. They reviewed the stories of the past year (some of which actually had some good journalistic subject matter), one being the Auburn story. They ran short clips and then commented on the story. It would have been the perfect opportunity to state that the NCAA found no evidence of wrongdoing and cleared Auburn. But nothing like that was mentioned. Just throwing Auburn under the bus again.
"you're so vain, I'll bet you think this post is about you, don't you? Don't you?"
Agree, except I think there is "something" that can be done to improve the AU image. It probably couldn't be dramatic, but might help or at least sensitize the NCAA about the constant UAT attempt to be superior by tearing others down and claiming unreasonable accomplishments. I think the Danny Sheridan bag man story has already given the NCAA insight into his unscrupulous tactics -- now he is apparently at it again putting out information that he really shouldn't know & probably doesn't (regarding future AU coaching changes). The UAT claim of the 14 NC's is ludicrous and they should be called out on this, but not by AU -- that would only result in additional outlandish claims. Anyone who would claim a NC like they do for 1941 when they finished 20th in the AP (four SEC teams finished higher) & 3rd in the SEC has allowed their pride to make them idiotic. It's one thing for the Updykes of the world to make such ludicrous assertions, but a major university??? AU needs an expert in public relations to work effectively behind the scenes (absolutely not publicly) to get the NCAA to take some kind of action across the board to minimize the negative bashing by alumni and supporters with media status, such as Danny Sheridan, and to promote professional relations between major institutions. The public bashing of AU without public apology or other penalty when proven in error is prolific and totally unfair.
While such an issue is admittedly difficult to get your arms around, reasonable adults should be able to see the harm of such ill will and take action against it. While UAT officially only does such things behind the scenes, they foster such an environment by overstating accomplishments (dishonesty) and tolerating unconscionable actions by supporters during recruiting (locking up Calloway) etc. Somone smarter than me should be able to do something to at least alleviate this matter which not only is costing negative image issues but also large sums of money to defend & investigate false charges.
