I don't really have a problem with him being named (if he is indeed named) the head coach. The problem I have with Smart is; How committed to Auburn would he be? If the UGA job opens up within the next 2 to 3 years will he turn it down? Whoever the next coach is will have to restructure the environment at Auburn. That will take a few seasons. Auburn needs to commit to a coach that will commit to Auburn......

Orange and Blue like the Auburn sky, War Eagle till the day I die.
That's said about lots of coaches... After all, don't they all have a diploma from somewhere?
I think once they land at a big school they stay unless they get run off for poor performance.
I've heard this a lot lately. Why is this question never asked of Muschamp?
You guys may be right. I just sill have to question how much a UGA grad and successfull Bama assistant would be commited to the biggest rival of those two school...... I think he will be a heck of HC whereever. I'm just not sold that he is the "Smart" hire for Auburn....Pun intended.
I'm pretty sure you just described Pat Dye, how did that work out again?
Fearless and true.
There is a HUGE difference my friend! Pat Dye was away form Bama for several years as a Head Coach when we hired him.
That is far from a huge difference. You can twist it however you wish, but Dye played at uga and coached at bama before coming to be one of Auburn's most celebrated coaches.
touche'.....I'm just not sold on Smart...yet.
I think if we do hire KS I think we will be the clear favorite to sign Alex Kozan!
Pat Dye grad from Georgia and was on coaching staff under bear for 10 years was he committed to Auburn yes he was.Pat Dye brought Au back to the stage and so can Smart
I hear ya, was on the bottom of my list initially but I have warmed to the idea over the past few days. I see him as a potential Muschamp, I see a lot of similarities and I dont think we will have to worry about discipline. We have all seen what solid recruiting paired with quality assistants can do. If you can have that and maintain discipline which is where Chizik failed horribly then it is a winning combo. I think Smart can be that guy, we will have to see if he is the guy and who he hires to assist him, but recruiting will still be there and I don't feel he is as much of a project as some think.
Well just another "food for thought" question... Where does a guy like Smart pull his assistants from? Obviously he's not bringing any with him. I'm just asking because I have no idea how that would work.
