It was time for a new Auburn hat recently, so I ordered the same one I've been getting for as long as I can remember....probably back into the 90s sometime (always have an orange one and blue one...same kind).
This past weekend I was cleaning some things out and came across one that was pretty old and worn. I always have 2 or 3 that are used for different reasons (regular wear, wear/work, and then a really rough one for dirty work...yard, car, etc).
Anyway, since I happened to have a new one, plus a very old one I found, I took a quick shot. It's probably a two-three year span of the life of a hat for me. The cycle has been in motion as long as I can remember.
Also came across an SI from 93 (?) that had Bo's return to baseball, as well as a cup from the Omni...has to be from the early to mid-80s.

I recall my favorite Auburn hat. I bought it around 1990 as a student at AU. It was khaki with a navy blue AU on it. I don't remember which company made it, but it was the most comfortable hat I every had. I wore it so long that the cloth on the end of the bib was worn into. It now rests in peace somewhere at the bottom of Lake Martin in the Blue Creek area. It blew off my head while we were riding jet skis sometime around 1996. If someone happens to find it, please e-mail me.
Good luck with finding the diving hat but it is funny.+1
Lost one of my favorite AU hats the same way in Lake Rabun in north Georgia. Probably around 94 or 95.
And hey AUE93, they found Dye's pants, they might find your hat, don't give up.
My favorite cap, orange with big tiger eye on the front, blew off en route to a fishing spot in Flamingo florida. I can still see it slowly floating away just out of reach then falling into prop wash never to be see again. RIP awesome hat.
I too lost my favorite auburn hat. I got it my sophomore year, it was fitted with an old school aubie on it. I had the night of the national championship game, when I woke up the next morning it was gone, swallowed up by a night of auburn debauchery and celebration. RIP old friend, you only lasted 1 year, but it was oh so magical.
Can never go wrong with the classic interlocking "AU" or the block "A" (Pat Dye style). I also like the Volunteer Traditions (and other companies) State of Alabama flag with the St Andrews Cross in orange and blue. Pretty cool.
