First time to post. I wrote this response to the article this morning, before having read PM's post about Mr. Hayes personal issues with Auburn, or I would have added that too.
C'mon, Matt. Why would you even write something like this? To get another guest invite to Finebaum? Here's the reality. When Chiz was hired we all knew it was going to take some time to rebuild. And yes, we can thank Saban for making everyone have to step up their game, including Auburn who had just come off a terrific run against Alabama and the SEC but was falling behind in recruiting. Most AU fans knew it would take some time to catch up to what Saban and Miles were doing. So in the middle of this rebuiding phase - a phase, I might add, where none of us expected to be in the top ten - we land a fantastic quarterback who just happens to make the whole team play above their heads for a season. Should we apologize for that? Act like it didn't happen? Of course not! We should celebrate it, be thankful the stars aligned like they did, but then move back to the task at hand of rebuiding because most of that team graduated. Which is exactly what this coaching staff has done - and done well based on recruiting rankings recently. The only people who seem to be overly concerned about Auburn being "a program slipping from relevence" are sports writers like yourself who apparently need to take shots at us to get more clicks and airtime. (Which is working, by the way...) Our proof of what we are building - a consistent winning program who competes for national championships - will become evident over the next three seasons. Cam just gave us a quick glimpse of what it will feel like when we get there. And that, Matt, is really the point.
