My answer to "do we want Alabama to win or lose" always comes back to "what is best for Auburn?". It's too emotional to just always want Alabama to lose, no matter what.
Do you LOVE Auburn MORE than you HATE Alabama?
Please tell me your LOVE for Auburn out-weighs your HATRED for Alabama. And if it does, then you should always want what is GOOD for Auburn MORE than you want what is BAD for Alabama.
Which is why I agree with Phillip. Looking at what is best for the future of Auburn, you should want an Alabama loss, but NOT just because it's Alabama. You want it because we will have two games in which to clinch the SEC-West and get a shot at winning the SEC championship.
Let's be realistic, we could lose to Alabama in Tuscaloosa this year. They haven't lost there since 2007. I think I would pick us in a close one, but anything can happen. They'll be favored I would think.
So, if Alabama is 10-1 going into that game, a loss to them would mean that we lose out on the national title game AND the SEC title game.
But, if Alabama is 9-2 going into that game, if we beat Georgia, we win the SEC west and play for an SEC title, even if we aren't able to win in Tuscaloosa.
Personally, the way I hope it works out is that Alabama is 10-1 and Auburn is 11-0, and we go in there and beat them, ending their hopes and dreams. But, that's the emotional, scripted, hollywood ending hope. The reasonable, logical hope, is that they lose before the Iron Bowl, thereby giving Auburn better odds at more success in general.
