First, let me set the table. I am a life long resident of Georgia and I'm a part of five consecutive generations of Auburn grads. (Great grandfather 1891, Grandfather 1932, Father 1962, Myself 1986, my son 2012)....side bar, my grandfather who turned 101 on November 4th of this year still watches all the games. This year he watched, and I quote, "UNTIL WE'RE BEHIND 30 POINTS AND THEN I TURN IT OFF!") :)
Like each of you, I bleed orange & blue. I grew up listening to the games on the radio as a kid, long time season ticket holder, went to Glendale, have a game day condo....you get the picture.
As a kid growing up in Georgia, it was always more important to me for us to beat the Dawgs. I really didn't understand the full meaning of the Alabama rivalry until I became a student in 1982 and I have lived and breathed the hatred of everything Tide related every day since. Since that time I have never once pulled for Alabama under any circumstances, against any opponent. My Hatred for the Dawgs is only one small step behind the Tide, but I have pulled for Georgia when they played Alabama. Fortunately, they don't play each othe very often, as it is a difficult game for me to watch.
When the SEC split into divisions in 1992 I knew there would come a day when the match-up would be Georgia vs Alabama. Fortunately it has taken 20 years, but unfortunately, it is taking place now and the dang game is for a National Championship spot! This is my nightmare come true!
Now to my delimma. I am in my 26th consecutive year living amongst Dawg fans since graduating from Auburn. They are an extremely obnoxious, arrogant group. They may not be as bad as Alabama fans, but they are close! Georgia has beaten us 6 out of the last 7 years and many of those games have not been close. This is a horrible run, but it's been bareable because their only focus has been on their lack of a National Championship in the past 32 years. The fact that we have the 2010 National Championship bothers them so much that they really don't remember that they are dominating the recent part of this series.
The ONLY thing we have over Georgia right now is our Championship. I cannot live amongst these people if they get a championship of their own. I know we do not want Alabama to get another one. However, I honestly believe that Georgia getting one will be worse than Alabama getting a third. (in this era) Alabama can't even keep up with how many they have. Is one more really going to matter to them?
So...I have made the conscience decision to pull for Alabama. Are you guys going to hate me? Have I gone insane? please help!

I feel your pain. I also live in GA & my dad played football at Georgia. My side of the family are all dawg fans. Yes, I am the only smart one in the family, AU '93. My wife's family are bammers. No where to hide. This is the worst case scenario for me...plus I HATE Notre Dame. No win situation. Why can't every year be like 2010!

Sorry, but this weekend is "GO DAWGS!" weekend.
This is a perfect example of how deep my hatred for the Tuscaloosers is. They will have forced me to cheer for LSU, UGAy, and Notre Dame all in the same year. Thank goodness they haven't played the Al Queda Terrorists this year cause I'd be cheering for them too.
Grew up in Georgia as well and have had to deal with those retards my whole life. I can't stand to see either one win. It's ultimately bad because I don't like Notre Dame either because everyone always glorifies that program that is lackluster for the last 20-25 years to say the least.
The point that stood out to me the most is UGA not having the National Title. I can't stand the thought of UGA winning a title because no one will ever ever EVER hear the end of it. For some reason they already think they are God's gift to Earth which I still can't understand considering they only have 2 SEC titles in the past 30 years. I hate both programs, and I really don't like Notre Dame either, but I'll be pulling hard for the Irish come National Championship time.
I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...

I've got too much Auburn in me to act like bammer trash.
My situation is so similar to yours. I grew up in west GA and am a 4th generation AU grad. Thankfully, the only Dawg in our family is my sis-in-law and she knows she's outnumbered. I totally agree with your opinion on Dawg fans.
I had to grow up listening to all the Dawg fans (a lot of "sidewalk" fans at that) telling me how great they are and how "this year is going to be the year we win a champsionship." So, I usually don't EVER want UGA to win. In fact, Bama used to be my second hated team.
Don't get me wrong - I never EVER want the Bammers to win. I think that's just in an AU fan's nature regardless of where you grow up. However, with the way the Bammers have acted the last couple of years (Cam, poisoning of the trees and the uglier-than-usual hatred directed our way), I just cannot stomach the thought of ever pulling for them.
It really pains me to say this, but I'm a Dawg fan this week. I'm an AU fan always.

You got to be kidding me!!! NO WAY!!!
I live right in the heart of the big dawg pen... Athens... UGAville... and I never root for the dawgs... EXCEPT... when they play that snoddy, arrogant, red-neck bunch from T-town!
Tomorrow... it's go dawgs! Beat bammer!
That's the way of life for a true Auburn man... or gal.
First Post Here. I agree with the OP, as its ironic as I have stated the same thing this week to myself and friends rationalizing why I would pull for a 7 OT controversial win over Thuga.
Growing up in West Georgia in the Herschel Walker & Buck Belue days was a nightmare, and all they have to cling on to. Lets hope that streak moves to 33 years and counting after Saturday.
It's not a nightmare to me. While I'm not a fan of georgia, I hate bammer. I do believe that they are going to go down tomorrow. Go dawgs.
I feel your pain and have made the same decision. I've lived in Georgia for the past 29 years. However, I feel the dawg fans are at least on a level as bama fans. You're right though about their angst that they have won a NC in over 30 years - 2010 almost killed them. I hope the NEVER win one - they will become even more unbearable. For that reason and that reason alone, I'll have to passively hope the bammers win this weekend.

I support this message. The last thing we need is for uga fans to have a title.
Don't hate you, but don't hate me if I pull for the Dawgs!! My niece & nephew graduated from there, anyway. Woof Woof!
And, Fight, Irish, Fight!!
