Here is another suspension handed down from the conference.
I don't like this even a little bit. They are getting into a big-time gray area. They are going to have to start explaining why one guy gets suspended and another guy doesn't. I don't like that this kind of thing could help determine a game....not in college football where a loss is so monumental.
The Southeastern Conference suspended free safety D.J. Swearinger for a game after his hit on a defenseless UAB receiver.

The National Hockey League similarly was dealing with lack of consitancy in applying disceplinary actions with head shots last year. The inconsistancey was very frustrating to a lot of NHL fans.
Generally speaking, leaving the feet ('launching' as the SC player was described to have done) coupled with a blow to the head of what appears to be a defenseless player is going to get you hauled to the Pokey every time. The more egregious the offense, the higher the penalty.
Reducing the incidence of concusions is now a high priority in contact sports. Since it is a high-interest problem; the leagues are going to play it safe with the public and slam offenders. Sign of the times.
