MONEY--having to spend it on a buyout, having to cover future losses in revenue due to a down program or having more than enough--will play a major role in all that is unfolding with our AU program. If ticket sales and attendance and donations, etc., are fairly certain to take a major hit if things remain status quo with Chizik and Co. then that will have to force decisions in different directions than IF the PTB determine the funds are--and will be--available to buyout the ridiculous $7.5-to-$10 million owed Chizik....PLUS the costs of sinking big dollars into a new HC and staff. I do not think that AU Athletics are in the red but there are limits to all things. Let's face it, some $20 million or more for a coaching change will have to prove itself on paper to Gouge and the Board of Trustees--which is now made up of well-experienced individuals in the finance and operations game.
As for a change at AD a lot will likely depend on how this mostly new Board feels about the JJ push for the $10-million buyout for Chizik....AND also just how solid the programs' finances are and are projected to be. I believe I am right that Dr. Gouge is within about two years or so of retirement. This factor could take some of the heat off of him in all aspects of this situation.
I have to wonder--seriously wonder--just how much wiggle room solid wins over New Mexico State and Alabama A&M MIGHT quiten the fans and give shelter to TPTB in putting off any decisions on either position--HC or AD. People--even Auburn fans--can/will stay "mad" only so long and things begin to die off in half-lives.
We might well see Chizik remain through 2013 if things improve in the next couple of weeks or so. Auburn has often been known for dragging around on these type decisions. ADD the money issues to this and in the end the math is very likely to determine the outcome. Numbers don't lie, don't judge and don't complain.
I am for a clean sweep with the HC'ing change being announced ASAP...or at least folks getting busy so that an announcement and new coach can be known as of about Dec. 1. Not sure on the AD but it seems a clean sweep can certainly be argued. Some times the surgeon doesn't know the extent of the cutting needed until he is inside the patient. I do feel Auburn needs a more fan-friendly Athletic Department. I am a two-time AU graduate but I can get myself, family and friends photos of coaches and other type things from the U of GA>, Flordia and even Updyke U before even one can be squeezed out of AU. This makes me embarrassed and makes my Orange and Blue blood boil.
But the money will decide yea or nay in the end and we fans and supporters control a lot of that money. See where I'm headed?

I'm not sure Gogue is planning on retiring in a couple of years. I'm sure he wants vested in the state retirement system. You have to have 10 years of service to do that. He has been AU president 5 years. I don't know if he has other years of service with the state prior to starting the AU president job though.
