While the move to the East would be fun for Auburn football, NC State really does make the most sense for the SEC.
In addition to adding to the East to counter A&M in the West, the move takes the SEC into a massive TV market.
I don't believe that there is that much of a gap between the football programs at A&M and NC St., either.
Sure, A&M is sort of up right now, but they have not been a Big 12 powerhouse of late. Both of these teams,
in my opinion, add to the middle tier of SEC football.
NC State is a land-grant, sea-grant and space-grant institution with over 30,000 students, and boasts
excellence in both agricultural research and engineering. Sound like an SEC school to anyone?
It does to me.
All of these things add up to a perfect fit as far as I'm concerned.
Any team joining the SEC will see an immediate benefit in their recruiting. So, whatever gap they
may suffer, will be overcome in two to three seasons. Currently, A&M plays second fiddle in its recruiting market,
and it will likely continue to do so. However, star athletes that would rather play in the National Title conference, may see
A&M a little differently now. Perhaps they'd rather stay close to home AND get to play the likes of Auburn, alabama, lsu and Florida.
The same would be true in Raleigh. Kids that would have chosen ACC schools nearby, can now stay AND play in the SEC.
I think that this would immediately put NC State on top of the recruiting food chain in North Carolina.
I also believe that these two teams added opens the door to expanding to 16 teams.
Both Texas and North Carolina are busting at the seams with college football teams.
In other words, those states are both big enough for two SEC teams in the future.
