First of all we are 5-2 with a very good chance of finishing with an 8 win season. Most everyone would have been ok with that back before the season. However, I can't help but to realize we could be better. I don't care who the QB is, if you don't throw the ball on first down every now and then, no QB will be successful. When Trotter or Mosely is only throwing the ball when it's 3rd and long that's a recipe for failure. If you don't want to throw on 1st, then at least mix in play action on 2nd. We started the year throwing the ball while we struggled on defense. Then we committed to the running game/clock management to make up for our defensive woes. Auburn has got to get back to throwing on first down more and doing more play action now that the defense has found an identity and has the right personnel out there. Florida had no respect for the passing game. That same game plan against a LSU or Alabama will result in us having less than 150 yards of total offense. I realize that we have missed our top two receivers that past two weeks but when it's third and long there's extra pressure on the QB and WR regardless who's out there. I'm a nobody but I was sitting in the stands calling our plays. 1st - Dyer up the middle for 2 yard gain. 2nd- McCalebb end around for 1 yard out of bounds. 3rd - Pass incomplete. 4th - Punt (our bread and butter play). Auburn is(was) young this year, but we very easily could be 6-1 with a higher degree of confidence going to LSU this weekend. Grant it our 2 L's are to 2 top 10 BCS teams but we can look back at those games and see that we are a good enough team to have won both of those. Again, we are about where most people assumed we would be and the future is bright, but when you see the potential to be just a notch better, that's where I want us to be. I really think our defense will match up ok with LSU's offense. If we're able to make LSU pay for having 8 people commited to stopping the run, then Auburn could possibly pull off the unthinkable.
..........BEAT BAMA .................BEAT BAMA..................BEAT BAMA
Caught myself doing the same thing. I quessed some 5 or 6 plays in a row. I think it was how good our defense was playing. We should see a lot of difference in this weeks game.
The end goal is winning. It is the only thing that matters. If running the ball every play gives us the best chance to win, that is what we will do.

The intent for the original post was just to simply be objective. I too, think we will see a lot of difference this week. If you look at the way the season has unfolded, they're is really no reason to be anything other than content and optimistic. We started the year young, talented, and inexperienced. Defense was lacking and running game was lacking. In order to win games, the coaches had to change the offensive game planning to make up for the defensive woes. We reaped the benefits of that decision with the win on the road in Columbia. The game planning hasn't changed since the Carolina game. It appears that it's time to make that change. I fully expect the coaches to make the adjustments needed now that they can rely on the defense to do enough to keep them in the game. Are we a better team today than we were Sep 3rd? Absolutley! While I questioned some of the play calling, I don't question this coaching staff's ability.
Play calling was controlled by the game plan which largely had to do with UF's offense. I can't think of a gadget play that has worked this year -- most have resulted in interceptions. CM may give us the opportunity to throw more if the 2nd half is any indication or his skills. His pass appears easier to catch. GM is the best & I would be reluctant to begin questionning him, particularly after a 11 point win when we were 2+ point underdog.
