If/When Petrino is hired and gets the ball rolling at Auburn, you can pretty much forget about losing games to inferior opponents. One loss to an "inferior opponent", two losses to teams with fewer than 10 wins.
Miami (9-3; Gator Bowl Champ): 41-38 @ Miami
South Florida (6-6): 45-14 @ South Florida
West Virginia (11-2): 46-44 (3OT) @ West Virginia
Virginia Tech (11-2): 35-24 @ Gator Bowl
Rutgers (11-2): 28-25 @ Rutgers
Auburn (14-0): 65-43 @ Auburn
Alabama (10-3): 24-20 @ home
Ohio State (12-1): 31-26 @ Sugar Bowl
Alabama (12-1): 38-14 @ Alabama
LSU (13-1): 41-17 @ LSU
Those 10 losses came to opponents with combined records of 106-22, and only 1 of them was at home (which they should have won). Only 3 would be considered blowouts.
During his tenure at Louisville and Arkansas, he also managed to rack up some wins over some pretty dang good football teams.
Boise State (11-1) @ Liberty Bowl
West Virginia (11-2) @ home
Wake Forest (11-3) @ Orange Bowl
Tulsa (11-3) @ home
Florida (13-1) @ UF - had game won before officials intervened; NCAA later apologized to UA for their actions and suspended the crew
LSU (11-2) @ home
South Carolina (9-5) @ SC
Mississippi State (9-4) @ MSU
Texas A&M (9-4) @ Arlington, TX
South Carolina (11-2) @ home
Kansas State (10-3) @ Cotton Bowl
What is often overlooked with Bobby Petrino is this fact...
He was a 2-point loss in DOUBLE OVERTIME @ West Virginia (2005) from winning 3 CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIPS at Louisville and taking them to TWO CONSECUTIVE BCS BOWLS.
Had they won that game, here would have been his conference finishes at UL...
2003 - 3rd (9-4)
2004 - 1st (11-1)
2005 - 1st (10-2)
2006 - 1st (12-1)

I posted something similar earlier today.
In games in which he was on equal ground, he rarely lost.
Meaning, when his team and the opponent had 6-8 wins, or when his team and the opponent both had 9-11 wins, or when both were ranked in the Top 10, or both his team and the opponent were ranked #11 to #25.
Under those conditions of equal head-to-head quality, Petrino's teams were 14-4. So not only did those teams have a great record against inferior teams, they were very, very good against teams with equal record or equal ranking.
But he lost to Saban!!!! ...Sorry, had to say it before the obligatory anti-petrino post. I really am done arguing the whole Petrino thing. BP 2012!

I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
I don't think people realize how thoroughly Petrino dominated in the CUSA and Big East, especially when the BE was at its best.
If he pulls out the double OT loss to WVU in 2005, he wins 3 consecutive conference titles and compiles a conference record of 20-2 in his final 3 seasons at UL.
Basically, 2 losses in OT (2005 WVU; 2006 RU) kept him from a 3-year conference record of 21-1.
I really wish this thread were pinned for reference any time somebody calls into question his coaching abilities when he is focused on his task. I think he got overly arrogant at Arkansas and lost his focus on what he should have been doing. Highly doubt Auburn would get anything other than the SUPREMELY focused Petrino who is determined to rewrite his legacy in a positive light.
He was 8 total points in 3 games away from this absurd 3 year record...
You are so right guys, he is the most dominant coach who ever crapped between a pair of shoes. We better hire him before the other schools with open programs snatch him up. Folks, he is damaged goods and we can wait until any candidates we may want turn us down, he will still be there unless Southern Miss grabs him.
I certainly can't argue with that. I do like the pictures though
Nothing against you personally. I'm just putting that on all of the generic BP posts. You'll see many s today.
