I posted this same thing after the S Carolina game, but on the old board, so I thought I'd update it as today.

The defensive line has had a huge overall impact, resulting in improvements in rushing defense, sacks, tackles for a loss....which all lead to an improved overall defense ranking from #68 to #45.
Scoring defense is greatly improved so far.
The increased talent depth shows up clearly in the improvement on special teams coverage in the kicking game. Punt returns and kick returns are up from #106 and #97 to #38 and #34, respectively. That's a drastic improvement due to guys like Demtruce McNeal and Craig Sanders making a big impact.
Penalties are down considerably (although the timing of the ones we commit sure seems to be bad).
You could say the pass defense, but really, it's hard to quantify how much is poorer pass defense or how much is just due to the fact that running the ball against us isn't easy to do, thereby forcing some teams like Ark St and La-Monroe to throw the ball 40-50 times.
3rd down conversion isn't horrible, but needs to be better.
Red Zone defense is a little better, but still not good.
Net Punting is down.
Great Info. Can you post each week?
Quick turn around or improvements that could be done today are punting, which we haven't done a lot of, and red zone defense. I think that both are and will be improved on as the year continues.
You can't have it all so if you are going to commit to stopping the run, you have to understand that means they are going to throw it.
Very interesting, thanks for posting.
