I was going to put a witty joke here, but I forgot bama fans still use picture books. So I thought I'd expedite the process for you...
It makes as much sense as claiming the 1957 championship.
No war is over until the enemy says it's over. We may think it's over, we may say it's over, but the enemy gets a vote. - Gen. James Mattis
1910, 1913, 1914, 1957, 1958, 1983, 1993, 2004 and 2010, hell, claim them all - WDE
ON TO VICTORY - STRIKE UP THE BAND
I acknowledge this claim and so it is official.
Ok then we have no claim to the 2004 title that everyone was screaming about if we can claim championships while on probation, then the title rightfully belongs with USC. Again, the double-standard/hypocrisy makes no sense.
Since that obviously went right over the top of your head, I'll spell it out for you. Your position is that ultimately tOSU shouldn't be able to claim an MNC this year because the are on probation, amongst other factors such as not playing in the conference championship game or the BCCG, etc., and that under those same circumstances the same should hold true for AU, were we in the same boat. My response to that was that your reasoning makes as much sense as AU claiming the MNC in 1957. Where you are getting turned around backwards is in your perceived assumption that the 1957 MNC was squeaky clean, much like 2004 and you're putting them on an equal footing. However, where history defies your understanding is in the fact that AU was on probation for the seasons of 57', 58', and 59'. Therefore there is a significant difference between the MNC's of 1957 and 2004. So to now correct your argument, we should not be able to claim the 1957 MNC because we would look like hypocrites if we did based on your reasoning for denying tOSU the right to claim one this year. But, being that the 2004 was not covered by the cloud of probation, it is in fact a legit season to claim an MNC due to USC going on probation.
Now for my rebuttal: My position is that we can't stop others from claiming MNC's whether they were on probation or not. And since the NCAA is notorious for their bias in citing infractions and handing out punishment and because they actually do not award any sort of championship in the sport of football, I believe that AU for the sake of AU, and ONLY for the sake of AU regardless of what anyone else thinks, is to recognize its greatest on field accomplishments by whatever means AU feels is appropriate. And that means that if AU goes undefeated, regardless of any publications acknowledgement, AU should stake the claim as being the best team in the country. And if a publication wants to recognize AU as being the best, regardless of record, or anyone else's record, AU should recognize that acknowledgement in appreciation of the acknowledgement itself as well as in the form of a sign of appreciation for the players and coaches who worked for and earned that recognition. For me, this is more about standing up for my athletes, regardless of sport, more than anything else. If my athletes do great things I want to recognize that, fans worried about what bammers and other fans think be damned.
I know exactly what you meant. So you can save the condescending tone. There are people on here who want to claim 1993. Explain that one smart ass.
Since you want to start the name calling, I've already explained 1993 in the very last post that you responded to of mine, dumbass, even if I didn't specifically say "1993".
Dawww someone got their feelings hurt. It's ok, guy. I was just stating that it's dumb for people to want to claim all these championships that we didn't even play for. Sorry, didn't know you were that sensitive to being called a smartass while you were trying to be a condescending smartass in your original post directed towards me.
