It is AWFUL, I would trade my new work laptop for an old machine running Windows 95 at this point
just got a new laptop with windows 8. ive nearly thrown it through the wall a couple times
"Get in where you fit in." Life is, Too Short TL;DR
Good friends are hard to find. Enjoy every moment you have with them.
I have to get a new laptop soon, use it for work 80 % of the time. Prices are decent for a PC and I was kinda worried when I saw the interface looks like a tablet.
I am hoping to find a laptop now with Windows 7 on it if I can find a new one still... I have No desire to try to learn how to operate a computer the NEW way!
It has a desktop mode that looks like the old Windows..
Remember: If The Jury Box Is Stacked With Foxes...The Chicken Is Always Guilty
Apparently they hide that function very well. Could not wait to uninstall it &get back to the comforts of WIN7.
I am working with my new HP w/W8 right now, it is a royal pain in the keester! If I had to do what P.M. does I would do the same thing he did and pay the price to get my old dog with Vista fixed! Windows 8 is for kids and Geeks!
It's better to have Coaches who can recruit than have recruiters who can't Coach!

You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
Set it to boot straight to desktop mode and install Start8 to get the start button back and it's a winner. Best part about the new version is the insanely fast boot up time.
Whoever made the decision to get rid of the start menu should be fired.
Performance stands out like a ton of diamonds. Nonperformance can always be explained away.
But it is a desktop mode with no start menu, WTH?
It's takes 30 minutes to get to the shutdown menu.
And did I mention it doesn't have a start menu
I've spent more time trying to find third party add-ons to make it more useable or searching the web for commands, that take me back to the DOS days, to try and add things to the desktop that should have never been gone
I also read an article in which a representative of Microsoft said it takes most users about 6 weeks to become comfortable with the new interface. Well I don't know how many people who use it for work have six weeks to waste getting used to new interface. I sure don't.
Learn to use windows shortcut keys and you'll be able to get where you want to go much faster in win 8, rather than trying to use mouse or mouse pad.
And to avoid a real headache, change the default jpg application to anything other than the one it comes with.
