"Listen, Carnell Williams has been an inspiration to this football program and to this university. We're going to miss him when he's gone."
Right now, with the market, and the future markets and availability of ammunition, the .308 would be the best choice. The ammunition for the .308 and 7.62 NATO are by far the most produced and most available. With the current panic buying phenomena, ammunition is going to be the hardest thing to come by but .308 is pretty much the first order of business as it is by far and away the most popular caliber. For economic purposes, you can't beat a .308. For accuracy purposes in the large caliber rifle group, .308 is among the tops. If my life depended on it, I wouldn't want anything other than a .308.
No war is over until the enemy says it's over. We may think it's over, we may say it's over, but the enemy gets a vote. - Gen. James Mattis
The problem with the .30-06 and the .270 is in the ballistics. The ballistics are so terrible that it requires an absurd amount of powder behind them in order to push them to velocities high enough to maintain stability and not start to tumble too early in flight. They transfer lots of energy on impact, enough to kill anything you hit within 500 yards, but there really is no sense in subjecting yourself to the abuse of the recoil that results from the oversized cases packed full of extreme amounts of powder.
Check out the Tikka T3 for a mid level price rifle. It has an adjustable trigger. Has really improved my accuracy. Barrel is top notch. Stock is very plain and is not a showpiece.
