Just got a puppy. Does anyone know about this breed. They are supposed to be very smart .
Try the American Kennel a club and Gordon setter club of America if you haven't already. They're beautiful dogs.
Neighbor down the street from me has two of them. Beautiful, sweet dogs. He had a heckuva time keeping them in the yard, frequently getting out of the fence. They even ignored the underground fence he had in his front yard. i found one of them out roaming once when their owner was out of town and put him in my back yard for the night. Got up the next morning and he had escaped from my yard, too! I guess he finally got the strength regulated on their collars because now they stay home. He also built a new, higher privacy fence. Post pics of your new puppy!
My brother had two Gordons. They were beautiful and sweet as well as zany and fun.
My brother referred to them very aptly as "the blondes".

"Auburn. I think of purity for some reason." - Lewis Grizzard
You are going to have to stay at it and prove to him you are the boss. i tell folks a professional trainer is a very good thing. The expense gives you a lifetime of enjoyment with your dog that is worth it. that is if you find yourself losing the battle. Go ahead and try training him yourself first. males roam more than females but the ladies are not above taking tours. Get out your brush and find a good groomer .
Congrats on your dog. Gordons are beautiful animals.
Two of the best quail dogs I have ever seen (and I have seen my share) are Gordons. Sweet, pleasing, tireless. Keep 'em trimmed and give them opportunities to find birds and they will be content. They are not nearly as crazy as most pointers but they are athletes and they plan to exercise - whether you want them to or not! Please post a pic. Best of luck with this wonderful dog.

Very smart and plenty of energy. Keep them exercised and stay on top of discipline. All setters seem to be escape artists so be prepared.
If they get bored they will find something to do on their own, and I promise it wont be something you want them to do.
I Believe Auburn and Love IT...4 Life!
You should prepare yourself to live with the consequences of your decisions, whatever they may be.
Yes, we need pictures.
