Someone asked about teams with a losing record pulling off a win in the Iron Bowl, so i was looking some things up when I realized....this year is the most lopsided set of records for Auburn heading into the Iron Bowl since 1950.
In 1950, Auburn went in with zero wins. Alabama had eight, creating an 8-win margin in records. That's the largest ever in the series. Before this year, the next worst was in 1952 when Auburn entered with two wins to Alabama's eight, creating a six game margin. That was matched in 1975 as Auburn took three wins against Alabama's nine.
So this year, we eclipse that six game margin by taking our three wins into the game against Alabama's ten....a seven game margin in records.
You can mark this down as another characteristic of the 2012 season that can be compared to the 1950 season (previously the season that stood alone as the standard for Auburn football futility).
PS. Just to compare...
Alabama took zero wins into the game against a seven-win Auburn team in 1955, and then a two-win team against a nine-win team in 1957. Those seven win differences stand as their largest deficit. Their second worst was their three-win team in 2000 that faced an eight-win Auburn, for a five-win margin.
