Gus would be a great hire for Auburn. The whole discipline thing to me you guys are claiming is a bit hard to accept. After all, it seems to me that the discipline fell apart when Gus Malzahn left not while he was at Auburn. That should at least give you pause before you call him soft on the players.
Regardless, judge Malzahn's softness or toughness on the team this year in which he's been the head coach. If those kids are in all kinds of trouble, then Gus certainly has major issues at Arkansas State. Personally, I haven't heard of anything like that for Malzahn so I have a hard time believing he's just super soft with players.
I am a Petrino guy, made the point and will stand by it.
Malzahn had a great O with Cam, but take him away, how was his O against the tough competition the other two years. LSU in '09 and '11, UGA in the same years. Same with Ark and Bama in '11. He just didn't put up the numbers. He beat the Ole Miss' and Miss St's of the world without Cam, but he needed 6'6" 250 lb, to put up the big numbers.
We need a guy that can put up numbers against our rivals without the best of all time, and Petrino is by far the better of the two, not even close.
AND? ..... WHY?
"Get in where you fit in." Life is, Too Short TL;DR
While I support Petrino, Gus would certainly have my support over Jimbo.
I don't see why all the Gus hate. People have to remember he was an assistant coach, a lot of the disciple problems fell on the head coach. If we hire Gus and get a solid DC, we'll be a great team. My number one pick is Petrino, but of the other candidates it is Gus next then Jimbo Fisher. I like JF, he's a great recruiter, but he seems he struggles in big games and his teams are kind of vanilla in play. Losing the big games in the ACC is not that great considering the best teams in the ACC are like average SEC teams
I am concerned about the staff Gus would try to put together at AU
Dyer says hello.
Please give substantiated proof. How do you know, I hear he was just the opposite and was upset that it was so under the old regime...
Can you tell me who i son that staff? Oh, wait, we do not know do we...
